I remember watching that on Sunday night a long time ago. I was 6! That's when comedy was funny! The Ed Sullivan show was the show to watch back then.

I used to see Bob Williams and Louie on TV shows when I was a kid in the 60s, 70s.

A good friend told me about this act, so I looked it up. I didn't remember seeing it back then, but I got the biggest laugh from watching this routine here on KZfaq. It's a brilliant act, well choreographed.

We named our family dog after this skit in 1963. But I wrote L O O I E in the sand so that was it. Best dog ever..great to see this again.

I saw Louie on Broadway in "Sugar Babies". Amazingly well trained to NOT DO A THING!

I've never heard of Bob Williams or Louie until today and I loved this. Not sure why this popped up, but my very first dog Rex, a golden retriever was like this. I taught him to ignore everything besides my specific hand commands. You could yell, shout, run around, scooch his butt and legs around, nothing mattered until you told him a trained command. And then still, if I told him stay, relax, no one else could ever get him to move. I still miss him daily. I think it was almost 20 hand signals I had for him and he knew every single one perfectly.

The yawn is the best.

That was the whole point of the act. The dog was trained to do nothing.

He wasn't trained to do nothing. He was trained to do exactly what he does. What makes this funny is a combination of his goofy looks and his laid-back attitude, coupled with the frenetic attempts by Bob Williams to try and get him to do ANYTHING other than the nothing he appears to be doing.. That slow sinking down of his backside into a full sit is a result of specific training, not just him doing nothing. I loved his TV appearances in the 60's and 70's and I just, happily, rediscovered him. Funny, funny routine.

He is trained to "do nothing". This was the 70's. Not drugged, not abused...

This is from 1965. I wondered about the drugging myself but I can't find any scandalous accusations anywhere though apparently Bob and Louie opened for George Carlin in 1977. Louie and George shared a joint before the show maybe? 😅 Seems Bob's dogs lived a good while and ate pretty darn good! He started this act back in vaudeville in the 30's.

This is vile. He is abusing this poor animal. The poor dog is clearly drugged. This horrible man would be jailed for this now and rightly so.

you're one of the perpetually offended, i take it. people: "Good morning!" Rosemarie: "It's never a good morning for slaves, the climate, or abused animals."
