Celestia scared of chickens. Why am I imagining a young Celestia having a Legend of Zelda moment with chickens? That was pretty scary to experience when I was a kid.

Nope. Clearly she had a terrifying run in with some cockatrices as a filly. It's another long day of being cooped up in the Castle of the Two Sisters. Another day of taking boring royal lessons and studying all day. Celestia is feeling restless. She asks the teachers about taking a break and exploring the Everfree Forest but they forbid it. Frustrated, after she sets the Sun and Luna raises the Moon, Celestia voices her concerns over dinner. Luna is sympathetic but says that if what she's seen in people's dreams are anything to go by the Forest is full of monsters. Celestia is unconvinced, mostly because of how exaggerated dreams tend to be. While Luna acknowledges that ponies's dreams are not always true to life she still maintains that they come from someplace real. So, just to be safe, Celestia should maybe find some other way to unwind. Unconvinced, while Luna is fighting dreams, Celestia sneaks off to go play hero in the Everfree Forest in search of her own adventures. A few hours later, just after busting up some Timberwolves, Celestia feels satisfied and tries to head back to the Castle before anyone realizes she's gone. But she soon realizes she's lost. Celestia stumbles around trying to retrace her steps and accidentally disturbs a cockatrice. Panicked, lost, and turned to stone, Celestia is trapped in the forest with no hope of escape. After a long night of busting nightmares, Luna goes to wake her sister in one of her dreams only to find that Celestia is having a nightmare about the Forest. Only after briefly dispelling the terrors pursuing Celestia in her dreams does Luna learn that she is trapped in the Forest. To save her sister Luna will have to leave Celestia to deal with this on her own but promises to save her. While Celestia tries to make it through this nightmare, Luna races to find her in the Forest. Once she does she searches the surrounding area for the cockatrice responsible. Then she uses what she has learned from various nightmares, foreshadowing her eventual transformation in Nightmare Moon, to intimidate the cockatrice and get it to undo Celestia's petrification. Terrified and exhausted, Celestia stumbles forward while Luna catches and soothes her, letting her know she's got her and that it's finally over. Celestia gets time off from classes as Luna helps her to cope emotionally and have more fulfilling time to herself. Celestia now reads about adventures and they play games and have fun together as sisters. The end. ...or at least that's what happens in my head. I don't know that we have anything canon on hand. I still like the idea though. And hey, why not? I think it definitely adds something to their individual characterizations and relationship as sisters. And I like it. Anyway, laters.

One thing I liked about this episode, is that it emphasized that the sisters are RULERS. They spend their time in the castle, attending meetings, and delegating. The running meme that they “never do anything” is kinda false, they are constantly working hard to maintain a kingdom. It’s like getting mad that a president isn’t personally arresting drug dealers. Besides, when you think back to most of the premieres and finales, Celesia and Luna either weren’t in a position to help, or were incapacitated. There were only a couple times where they intentionally stayed on the sidelines.

Celestia and Luna definitely needed the vacation they took in this episode, especially since they had no experience with living the live of normal civilians, which of course now they do.

I am glad to see I am not the only person who loves the tiny details like faces and horn crossing. My favorite thing is the micro movements. Usually movement is from one position to another, but adding a small movement or multiple really adds to expressions
