For all the criticism Fluttershy gets about learning the same few lessons over and over again, there's one understated moment in this episode (at about 5:00 minutes in) where I think it's apparent how much she's grown. Does anybody else think that the "old" Fluttershy probably would have frozen there instead of replying straight-away with a wide-eyed sweating "No!"?

Definitely. Fluttershy has grown, but we all slip into our old habits sometimes or have a hard time overcoming them even if we have once before which is what fluttershy often gets criticized about (and which honestly annoys me to no end but hey, I get it). That moment would have definitely been different for the “old” fluttershy and it really does show how much she’s grown. To summarize the probably unnecessary long text, I 100% agree and I’m happy someone else sees that she has improved even if she still is a little timid every now and again. :D ;)

Season 7 really sold it that Fluttershy's become a far more confident and assertive pony, so with this episode being in Season 8, i don't know if that moment in this episode is really that understated at this point. After seeing this new side of Fluttershy finally appear in full form in the the Season 6 episode "Flutter Brutter", and again in the Season 7 episodes "Fluttershy Leans in", "A health of Information" and the moment in 'Fame and Misfortune" when she owned those ponies that was picking on her, (and i nearly passed out from it lol) seeing it isn't so surprising now: we KNOW she's got it in her now. Seeing Starlight being made a Guidance Counselor in this season's premiere was more of a shock (to me anway) then Fluttershy showing her new confident/assertive side in this episode. Going into this, i even thought that this might be the one when she becomes TOO confident/assertive.

She’s also very out of her element in this episode, being in Manehattan where everyone is confidant and in a rush rather than Ponyville where ponies are more chill and move at their own pace. It’s not surprising that she gets overwhelmed quickly and has to overcompensate being confidant in front of these ponies.

I loved that we got to see this kind of interaction between Rarity and fluttershy since we haven’t seen this duo focused on really since Season 1 in “Green isn’t your color”

I like to imagine what's going on in Fluttershy's head during this episode, like that one episode of Spongebob where the Spongebobs in his head can't find his name. Flutter 1: We need more words! When it came to being assertive in the episode Putting Your Hoof Down and finding her inner strength in this episode Fake It Til You Make It, Fluttershy went a little over board on how to go about it. Calling the her raccoon friends rodents was just like when she made fun of Pinkie Pie and Rarity to the point where they cried. Thank Celestia Fluttershy has such wonderful friends that love her enough to keep her in check because otherwise Fluttershy would have turned into a crazy psycho pony.

... omg... someone at collage told me i was like Fluttershy. I did't know exactly who she was and so ignored kinda his commend. After some time this was in my proposals (I don't know why. Maybe because of the songs I watched from the new movie they made?) and thought: Oh. isn't that this pony? And now I'm shocked. The same shyness, the same caring affect for animals of all species and the same haircut and length! (just i'm natural darkblond.)The only different is, that I don't have such a light voice.

I believe this episode will stick with me purely for the new headcanon it gave me: Fluttershy has a form of Dissociative Identity Disorder (aka multiple personalities). Just something about the way the "characters" she created interacted with others, not to mention acting so dismissive toward one another when they were being fired, made it seem like there was something really going on there. Fluttershy's previous outbursts, such as in The Best Night Ever and Putting Your Hoof Down, also make it seem like she can sometimes let out other versions of herself without realizing it. Note that I don't know a whole lot about psychology and YES, I know that's not properly how D.I.D. works, but it's just a thought. Maybe it's more like a Jekyll/Hyde thing, where one remembers the actions of the other, but they still act and think independently?

I didn't care for this episode when I first watched it, but I've come to enjoy it more thanks to your reaction. So thank you for that. X) Also, I now crack-ship you with the Edward Scissorhands(hoofs?) Goth pony. XD If you ever want me to stop shipping you, please tell me and I shall. Few more things: apparently, the male unicorn, Bracer Britches (he and Fancy Pants have very ironic names, seeing as how neither of them wear, y'know, pants), is a reference to Tim Gunn. Fitting reference. Also, I believe this is the first time we've heard the Joan Holloway pony speak. I wish they had gotten Christina Hendricks to voice her (I mean, it was only one line), that would have been awesomeness galore. :D

There's also a popular game based on it called SCP: Containment Breach, which has been remade using Unity because the original game's engine apparently isn't supported anymore. ....Aaaand for me, Fluttershy has lost her standing as "best pony" and that makes me sad and angry. "Just acting" is a pitiful excuse for lashing out at and rejecting the ones who accepted and encouraged her, being rude to everyone around her, and pretending to be three different ponies just to be fired three times in a row BEFORE APOLOGIZING. This is the worst characterization of her in a long time, and while the beginning was a nice nod to her growth, this felt like a massive step backwards, if not sideways completely off her development path. I know a lot of people aren't gonna see it this way, and there were a few bits of this episode I _did_ enjoy...but those glaring majorities just...it was painful to sit through. So painful.

Well that was Applejack's claim and perspective, and we saw what Fluttershy's idea of a great dress was (a disaster), and IIRC she's only ever been shown to _finish_ a dress Rarity already half-finished and designed, and that was with the help of the other Mane 4.

Everyone's always giving fluttershy a hard time for still being shy but I'm pretty sure she has anxiety, not shyness but somewhat similar and it's not possible to 'get over it'. This episode is a very good example of social masking....or I'm taking this to seriously and it's just a kids show

I just noticed at 18:04 when fluttershy walks around the corner she she switches from snooty shop pony to goth shop pony
