Alright! A Rainbow Dash episode and a Rainbow Dash song. I do understand her sadness. As the element of loyalty it's probably difficult for her to abandon Tank, especially considering that he refused to abandon Rainbow Dash when she needed help. It's the whole reason she chose Tank as a pet. Even though he's not dying, it probably takes just as much of a toll on her since she is very active and was excited to spend so much time with him.

It only took 5 seasons but RD finally got a solo song

That scream Rainbow Dash let out with the lightning jar was probably the girliest sound she's ever made. And her crying is adorable and heart-breaking at the same time. Also, did you notice her and Tank's slippers? So cute!

"Prepare yourselves, everypony: winter is coming!" That...actually just happened, didn't it? I didn't just imagine it. _My Little Pony_ just made a _Game of Thrones_ reference.

If you notice, Rainbow actually goes through the stages of grief. She denies that tank can hibernate. She gets angry at her friends. She gets a bit muddled in the middle because that tends to vary based off personality, but she still had that step. Then she hits depression and acceptance.

The crying scene went full 180 to hilarious for me with "APPLEJACK'S CRYING ON THE INSIDE, TWILIGHT!" AJ's little pose and "It's true." killed it.

I thought this episode was pretty good. It was great to see a more tender and sweet side to RD's character. Although, I can kinda see people finding RD a bit irritating in this episode at times, particularly when she's being rude to her friends. However, I think if you put yourself in RD's position you can understand her frustration and motive for what she does, and, personally, I think the fact that she would go as far as to stop winter just to be with Tank is incredibly sweet. It's kinda like with Pinkie in Pinkie Pride, where you want to see RD succeed, even though she's in the wrong. Also, if you look more deeply into it, this episode could be seen as a metaphor for dealing with the death of a loved one. RD even goes through the five stages of grief: 1) Denial - Telling everyone and herself that Tank cannot and will not hibernate. 2) Anger - Redirecting her frustrations at her friends. 3) Bargaining - Trying to stop winter from coming. (Insert Grinch reference here.) 4) Depression - Realizing she can't stop winter, RD closes herself out and becomes depressed. 5) Acceptance - After RD finally lets out all her sadness, she accepts the fact that Tank has to hibernate and lets him go. Also, Fluttershy showing she still remembers her lesson from the Breezies episode (being firm is sometimes the best way to show kindness to someone) was awesome. I'm also kinda glad they sorta subverted the "everybody starts crying" cliche. I *LOVED* the song. The musical style fits RD perfectly, and hearing her sing solo for once is great. The animation and choreography in it were nothing short of amazing. Also, RD's facial expressions were either really great, or really funny. The humor in general was pretty decent, especially for a Cindy Morrow episode, where usually her comedy is hit or miss. The "Who's on First" parody was hilarious, but as mentioned previously, I think some of the facial expressions, particularly from Rainbow Dash, were the most entertaining part of the episode for me. Overall, a really sweet and fairly entertaining Rainbow Dash episode. Though, I can kinda understand why some may not enjoy it that much, especially if you're not a fan of RD in general.

This episode is absolutely killing it with the faces. Rainbow's 'do I look like I'm angry" scowl and her Grinch smirk are amazing. It seems like a 'mental breakdown' episodes really gives the animators the chance to stretch the limits of the show's facial expressions (e.g. Lesson Zero, Pinkie Pride)

Even though im 21 I honestly love this show! I just realized they have Rainbow going through the 5 stages of grief & they did it such a good job with it

It’s so interesting to think that perhaps today’s episode of MLP:FiM could be a much darker metaphor alternative to the Kubler-Ross Effect; mainly the 5 stages of grief or D.A.B.D.A for short. I know it's mainly about the emotional journey of dying, not a loss... but it does have some significance to its alternative interior. Denial = Rainbow Dash refuses to believe that hibernation (or dying in a darker tone) would happen to Tank. Anger = She is angry that she takes it on her friends cause she doesn’t want to be proven right. Bargaining = Dash is trying to beg for either Spring or Fall to help her destroy Winter so that she could keep Tank awake (or alive) to prevent hibernation (or death). Depression = The inevitable happens that there is nothing she can do and breaks down to cry, not caring anymore of trying to keep Tank up and awake. Acceptance: She finally lets Tank hibernate and lets him go (or allowing merciful death to swoop up Tank and bring him to the peaceful afterlife) and she accepts herself and moves on. The way Rainbow Dash acted in this episode only made this more apparent. I know hibernation for Tank takes up to 3 months and a lifespan for turtles (don't know all of them) live up over 200 years. Even so, the way it went step by step when I first watched this I couldn't help but point this out in an instant. I can’t believe this episode could go this deep when it’s coincidentally well written. Just thought I like to point that out.

The crying scene actually moved me to tears, and that has only happened ounce before in the entirety of the mlp series. I believe it was played out perfectly, and I know exactly how Dash feels about having to be without her pet for a while. I have a dog who is my whole world, and when me and my family went on a trip and had to leave him, I did in fact cry. It can be pretty tough when your that close to a pet, it's worse with the death of a pet, and I have gone through that as well. So this episode is a very relatable episode, teaches a great moral to kids, and is my favorite episode of the season so far.

Has anyone else noticed this: When Dashie finds out that tank needs to hibernate she says the line "Come on, tortoises don't hibernate." And her first antics were to prove that tank doesn't need to hibernate, well I think she was acting like that because she was in denial (the first stage of the five stages of grief). And throughout the rest of the episode Dashie continues down through each stage, next being anger, when Dash snaps at pinkie. The next stage is bargaining, when Dash tries to make winter not come.It's not exactly bargaining but it's pretty close. Next is depression, when Dash begins to cry and exclaims, "I don't want him to go!". And the final stage is acceptance, which is shown when Dashie thanks the other mane six for helping her and when she lets tank go and hibernate.

7:50 carefull Rainbow, looks like Pinkie's ready to flip the safety off on the Twi-cannon. We've seen before she knows how to use it!

I consider this one of this show's gold episodes. It was mature, sad, fun, and had a little cheesy element. Also, Hasbro, did you seriously put the five stages of grief in a kid's show? You win a medal.

i loved everything about this episode, in fact this is my favorite one, dont care what comes after, this is my number one, Rainbow Dash has always been my favorite pony and i love turtles and tortoises, and when she got Tank it was like a dream come true, also and i know people may say things about me but.... this episode brought tears to my eyes, i understand Rainbow Dash, its not easy to let go of someone you love, even if its for a short time, anyway great reaction dude

It's so adorable how much Rainbow loves Tank and it's so sad that she has to leave him sometimes, you just gotta make the hard decision, even if it means losing your best friend for 3 months

I was very touched when Rainbow Dash has to say goodbye to Tank for the Winter, though I did notice apparently Rainbow Dash got away with a act of eco-terrorism. Not to be a party pooper, it was a very enjoyable episode and gives me high expectations for the rest of the episode

Just found something amazing out from this episode. You know those Barrels Rainbow dash fell into? The ones with the Snow symbol?. The stuff wasn't Snow, but a chemical that when mixed to water, it makes a reaction and creates snow or fake snow, So in SCIENCE if you ever eat the snow, you die or gets really sick. That's why they make winter themselves because they don't have winter in equestria

This episode was good but not as good as the first 4. I like how it shows how much Rainbow loves Tank. And also that she doesn't like to be alone at least for long. Also yet again more things to show Fluttershy haters that they're wrong about her having no character development. I love that they showed more of the weather factory, Rainbow's house and the castle. Now we know more about how seasons are created although it seems like the only thing controlled in Equestria besides winter and the weather is cleaning up winter. The song and humor is great. Also I like how they found a way to show a pet's death even with no death that the station would allow. Also 5 for 5 on songs. And Wilhelm scream 17:01.

I think this could have been one of the best episodes, but by saying Tank was just hibernating instead of actually dying really seemed to take away the impact. The permanence of death is why it's emotional. When Mr. Hooper died on Sesame Street, the show used it as a way to talk to children about death. It's not as if kids can't understand this stuff.

This was a great episode and I think 90% of all people can relate to rainbows situation. Interesting that you have something against flutterdash shippers since you are a dash shipper yourselve. Besides Dash I really liked AJ in this episode, the inside cryong fitts her.

this is the one episode I genuinely did not like this season. To me RD is a complete jerk in this episode more than usual. I know she is in denial but it's aggressive denial and it isn't fun to watch; at least not for me
