I love how this episode is a metaphor for divorced parents and what their kids have to go through. While I can't relate to that on a person level, I can still understand the message very clearly. And Scootaloo saying swimming is like flying was both a happy and sad moment, for obvious reasons. Plus, that porpoises pun, though. She's just like Rainbow Dash. While on the song, it wasn't Madeline singing this time. It was Arielle Tuliao, which I didn't realize when I first saw this. She sounds almost like Madeline. And I also thought it was pretty funny because of Arielle, like Arielle the mermaid. Under the sea! Anyways, great episode. I'm really liking season 8 so far, and I'm looking forward to more from it. Personally, I thought the reasoning behind Sweetie Belle being so into the Harmonizing Heights is because of the musicality aspect of it, first and foremost, and that colored the way she saw the rest of it. Also, I can see the whole divorce aspect of the episode now, but in first watch, I felt it was more a situation of a, like, bi- or multi-cultural kid who experiences a new culture for the first time - his so called "original" culture, and now isn't sure where to live (or even more generally, which culture to incorporate for his everyday life) because he doesn't want to disappoint either sets of family, both of whom he loves. And then he discovers that he was putting all the pressure on himself and that his parents/family love him because he's him, and he's free to be whoever he wants to be (personally, that was the part of the lesson of the episode that resonated the most with me, about Terramar's parents loving him for being him - because my parents certainly love me for being me - it's certainly not the divorce angle since my parents are still happily married, and it's not necessarily the cultural angle, either - being that my mom is American and my dad is Canadian, and most of my extended family lives here in California, so there tends to be quite a bit of homogeneity there). I think both are valid interpretations, now that I think about it. I swear I was going to write something else here, but that portion above took so long to put into words that I found at least acceptable, I forgot. Maybe I'll remember later.

I may be the only one, but I think the map could be a great tool for an open world MLP game similar in scope to Skyrim or Witcher 3. Have something where your avatar gets kidnapped from Canterlot High, wakes up in a dark room, finds his/her way to Ponyville, and then the map has a special reaction to your character, resulting in him/her having different main missions that can be accomplished. Meanwhile, the six (so far) kingdoms have their own wild creatures to fight, NPC's to help out, and decisions to make regarsing diplomacy amongst themselves and the other kingdoms. Then have the three pony races you can pick from, with the others added on as free (or maybe not; depends, really) dlc and differrent skill trees one can pick from.

Only three episodes in MLP history resonated so strongly in my heart. Do princess dream of a magic sheep: Cause I came through a breakdown and I understood more than anything Luna's speech about self punishment (I was sad so long that I worried what it would be like to be happy again.). Second, All bottled up, because I always wanted to be a kind and gentle person towards others and my anger was just burning inside me, making a lot of demage before I learned to express it in a postive way. And Surf and/or turf...my parents are divorced for 14 years. They still like each other very much but they are also like fire and water. I have two, quite distant houses, each one with different rules, advantages and flaws. I don't know what is like to have one , firm family and many times I feel that I am in between, even though I learned to benefit from both places. But this episode was like my life in a miniature with hapiness at the end. Thank you Hasbro writers. From this day, Terramar is my spirit animal.

Y’know, Blank reminded me of the fact that the very last time Tw was there, she committed a major crime. It would’ve been funny if she couldn’t turn into a Seapony, like that was Queen Novo’s way of banning her from seaquestria, making it so she couldn’t transform, so she had to make a magic bubble or something to go down there. I guess she wouldn’t have really been stopped, but it would’ve been better than just forgetting about it,

'This is a very specific message that will speak to a very small portion of the audience'. I dunno if 'very small' is accurate to say. I think divorce is more common than you think it is. I can't speak for other countries, but in the US, 50% of marriages end in divorce, and though marriages with kids don't divorce as often as marriages without kids, that number is still between a quarter and a half. I myself witnessed my parents divorcing when I was seven, before they both got happily remarried half a decade later. Rest assured, this episode will reach quite a large audience. :)

4:40 Actually, no. There is one shot of Mount Aris from the movie that lets us see how it is situated. From it we can see pretty much exactly what we can see in this episode - Mount Aris is a peninsula jutting off from whatever the nearest landmass is. The land bridge in this episode is perfectly visible in the movie. So yeah, there is no issue with continuity there, nor any reason for anyone to need the resources to build a land bridge. Either the animators/directors thought ahead on that one, or just got really lucky. I like to think the former is true.

I love how his name is Terramar, it translates perfectly to his nature Terra means "earth" and Mar means "sea" in Spanish and Portuguese

I certainly appreciate the hidden divorced family metaphor. I grew up with divorced parents and only got to see my dad on every other weekend or special events. And that didn't even last long since he died when I was 7. And I was fortunate that my mom and dad tried to maintain a friendship for me and my older brother.

Though he didn't have to choose, I feel like scoots had more reasons to live in Seaquestria than sweets because all she talked about was the harmonizing hights really... (Too lazy to type out their names xD )

I have to admit this one hit close to home but not in the way I would have expected. When my parents divorced I was four and they knew neither me or my younger sister were mature enough to make that kind of choice. So they made an agreement : my dad had us a weekend every two week and during 50% of the holidays. But in the recent years my sister left home to live by her own and I started working and didn’t have as much holidays as before and, well couldn’t do both. Actually this year I’m doing neither ! But choosing is hard and there’s pressure because we need to be organized and know in advance what we’re doing for the summer. So yeah I relate when Terramar say he’s afraid to let down people !

So Scootaloo had a lot of fun underwater ; Twilight only had one pink stripe on her tail fin while in the movie she had two stripes ; the little hippogriffs aren't wearing necklaces maybe they will when they get a little older ; and it looks like the hippogriffs can breathe on the surface in there sea pony forms which means there necklaces transforms them into amphibians. As far as I see it Terramar and Silver Stream should convince there auntie Queen Novo to allow Twilight and her friends to all of them have one of those necklaces. That way they could go to underwater adventures. I believe Queen Novo is willing to forgive Twilight. And Twilight should make copies of the necklaces for the cutie mark crusaders, Starlight, Trixie, Maud, Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Shining Armor, and for Zephyr Breeze. However I don't think Spike would like to be a puffer fish again. Twilight should bewitch Spike's necklace copy to transform him into a water dragon. If Pinkie had a necklace I think she would transform herself and the cake twins into sea ponies. Pound and Pumpkin would look adorable as sea ponies and Mrs Cake would say: - But Pinkie it's too early for them to learn to swim. If the Apple family would spend a weekend at the beach, Applejack and Apple Bloom would transform Big Mac and Granny Smith into sea ponies. Being a sea pony would improve Granny Smith's swimming skills and then the family could sing the SHOO BE DOO SHOO SHOO BE DOO song. If there was a show and tell at Ponyville school the cutie mark crusaders would do there sea pony transformation in front of the class and the other students would be amazed. After school the students would go to Twilight's castle and ask her to make more copies just like when they wanted to spend time with her in Twilight time. Even Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon would want a necklace. If Diamond Tiara's mother Spoiled Rich would see that her daughter could transform into a sea pony she would see this as a great opportunity to search for sunken treasure. So she would ask her to come along to the beach, transform both of them into sea ponies, and they go underwater. Spoiled might also be interested in sea pony jewelry. Filthy Rich would find her wife very sexy as a sea pony, so he would ask Rarity to make swimsuits for Spoiled and Diamond. I think if Filthy would go into the bedroom and see Spoiled and Diamond on the bed as sea ponies, and if Diamond asks him: - Care to join us father ?- he would blush. Even Thunderlane's little brother Rumble should have a necklace. That way he could find out how good he is at swimming. For example if the Wonderbolts would have a picnic at the lake Rumble would pop up from the water and ask them if he could join. They allow him and Rumble would come out of the lake and crawl to them using his front legs. The Wonderbolts would gasp and Thunderlane would ask: - Little bro what happened to you ? And Rumble would say: - Well you told me to try other stuff not just flying, so now I'm finding out how good I am at swimming as a sea pony with this necklace. Even Rainbow Dash has one of these. Rainbow Dash: - Yes I do. Rumble: - And that's not all. He transforms back into a pony, goes to Spitfire, holds her hoof and transforms both of them into sea ponies, and Spitfire is amazed. Thunderlane says: - Thats amazing little bro ! Above all, an episode like this should be called: Sea ponies of Ponyville. And how about an episode where Captain Celaeno and her pirates return and ask the main 6 for help ? An epic pirate adventue would be great wouldn't it ? Also I have mentioned Thunderlane's little brother Rumble. I wonder if we'll get an episode where the pegasus twin sisters Flitter and Cloudchaser are foalsitting for him ?

Eh not all divorce works like this though. It's often much uglier and children don't get much of a say of who they want to be with a lot of the time. I guess you couldn't show all that in a mlp episode though.

This REALLY resonates with me! It's pretty much the exact same situation at home; my mom and dad got divorced but I split the time equally between them because (thankfully) they're still relatively close to each other (on a map at least). Unfortunately, there's the downside of always feeling like a spy, with both parents trying to figure out what the other one's thinking by asking annoying questions.

I have been waiting for the CMC's to get called by the map, so I was extremely happy by this. I know some people think that the map should be only call the mane six, but I have been on the firm believe that anyone that the mane six know could potentially be called. And since Starlight and Spike have been both been called, that furthers my belief, and now of course the CMC. And Scootaloo's line about the swimming being close to what flying probably feels like, that line got me. And as a episode it was a lot of fun. Really enjoyable, in my opinion.

This episode is really great, may be my favorite episode of S8 so far; aside from “School Daze.” I had hoped for the CMC to get a map adventure and I couldn’t have been more excited to see it! Not only that but, the destination happened to be at Mnt. Aris and Seaquestria, bonus!! I’m really glad that we got to learn more about the hippogriff’s/hippocampi and their homeland, I can check that off my wishlist. I like Silverstream’s family members, they’re pretty cool. Also, I did enjoy the song in this one, one of the best of S8 and the CMC songs. I actually do sympathize with Terramar in this situation because I’m going through a similar problem, only a bit more complicated than his; nuff said. Very nice reaction, this was fun!

I empathize A LOT with the kid. How hard it can be choosing which parent to live with, when there’s pros and cons to each place. Except my parents actually did divorce when I was young, and each live on opposite sides of the country

I gotta say, the argument between Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo in this episode over where Terramar should live making them not wanting to be friends, it was just really felt shattering how two best friends can break apart over a small argument.

I actually think that Sky Beak and Ocean Flow were both born during different eras of hippogriff/seapony life and that's why they have differing names as well as why they chose different places to live. Sky Beak was born right before the hippogriffs went into hiding, so his name follows the sky/land theme that hippogriff names usually follow. He chose to go live on land because he has fond memories of life on Mt Aries. Ocean Flow was born right after the hippogriffs went into hiding, so her name follows a more water/seapony theme because of her environment. She decided to stay underwater in Seaquestria because the ocean was the home she grew up with and loved. She didn't have any real experiences outside the ocean, so she saw no point in leaving.

Taramar is such a perfect name for him. Tara meaning land and mar meaning sea :) so cool

I too thought of this as a divorce episode, but with all the interruptions it was hard to tell. Turns out it wasn't that bad as such. And I too loved Scootaloo's enjoyment of swimming. Part of it felt like a nod towards The Cupcake Chronicles where Rainbow has lost her wings, and Scootaloo suggested that swimming is like flying.
