There's also a hanging that takes place in RDR2 in which the lawman says something to the effect of "..leave his outlaw past behind.. become a rancher and family man. The law don't work that way, Mr. Johnson" This is a reference to John's attempt at living at Beecher's Hope as a rancher and family man, but his past catches up to him in the end.

"You will not have a choice... But you have lived better than most" 🥺🥺🥺 It's true. John dies at the Epilogue of RDR1. But he had a good life at the end of RDR2. 4 years of happiness and peace after so many years as an outlaw is perhaps more than what most people in his situation deserve.

I'd like to say that this comment is up to interpretation. Yes, it could be an easter egg alluding to John's demise in RDR1. Could be in reference to good karma. Since John did good of this stranger, "they" will come for him when he least expects it.
