This song was inspired by the Falklands War, which was going on when Dire Straits lead singer Mark Knopfler wrote the song. The Falklands War was a conflict between Argentina and the UK over islands off the coast of Argentina that each country claimed rights to. The islands are British territories, but in 1982 Argentina tried to reclaim one of the islands. Britain reclaimed their territories, but lost 258 soldiers in the conflict. In this song, Mark Knopfler sings about a soldier who is dying on the battlefield, surrounded by his comrades, who remain by his side as he slips away. It's a look at the folly of war and the plight of those who fight them. "We've got just one world but we live in different ones," he told the BBC. "It's just stupid, it really is. We're just foolish to take part in anybody's war."

This is the most evocative, haunting, emotional song Home Free ever did. As a veteran, this brings tears every time. It's amazing.

In my opinion, this is one of Home Free's masterpieces. The haunting, melancholy melody and angelic harmonies in this version give me 'the feels' every time I hear it. And the video goes so well with the message of the song. So excellently done by Home Free ! (BTW: 90% of viewers not subscribed is actually not terrible. It is typical that the number of viewers is many times higher than those subscribing to the channel.)

Although the songwriter (Mark Knopfler) wrote "Brothers in Arms" during the Falklands War, he had an unusual perspective on the horrors of war. His grandfathers fought on opposite sides of WWII.

A couple different patriotic songs from Home Free that you'll probably love are: *Land of the Free" 🇺🇸🦅 (fun, upbeat title song from their patriotic album, written by Tim Foust, the bass guy) and *Travelin' Soldier* 👩🏽‍✈️ (cover/upgrade/rewrite of an older song. Gorgeous harmonies!). Oh!! Also, their version of *My Country 'tis of Thee* is absolutely beautiful! 💞

This arrangement was actually done by Swedish group "Club for Five" (mixed acapella). Tim heard it and asked if HF could do it. Obviously, they were given permission. Personally, I think that "Do You Hear What I Hear" is their absolute best song.

Home Free always pays appropriate respect in their covers--especially to the content! Their talent is amazing--and I LOVE their 5-part harmony❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥 #HomeFree

This one makes a lot of reactors cry. I hope you have tissues nearby. This song applies to any soldier sent to fight for their country, whichever it is. Especially any who lay down their life in battle. Home Free has a lot of patriotic songs on their list. Take a look and you will find few originals as well.

At some point you should do God Bless the USA. They have 2 versions, and I would strongly recommend the version in which they collaborate with Lee Greenwood and the Singing Sergeants of the USAF band. It will knock your socks off. BTW, God Bless the USA is an example of the many videos they did remotely during lockdown. You will recognize these because they are not really together, as with the When a Man Loves a Woman video. The boys kept putting out a new video every two weeks and it really brightened that dark period and gave us something to look forward to.

Aren't those harmonies fantastic? And Tim and Chance's l-o-w-voices were perfect for it. If you do Go Rest High, if military 'sadness' gets to you, you might want to avoid the official video and instead watch the "Church Sessions" one instead. The music is glorious in both of them, but the video can be distracting in the official one - and the "Church Sessions" one is a live performance.

@@markpfeiffer9367 The song itself was written in response to the 1982 Falklands War. This particular version, yes, they are showing an American cemetery, but I doubt even HF would travel abroad simply to film an Argentinian or British cemetery for it. The sentiment is timeless, and truthfully, the HF men are far too young to be re-living the Vietnam War.
