Just curious...did anyone else notice the irony in the statement that Smolder made. She said that "maybe dragons and griffons are too cool for friendship" and then proceeded to give the griffon a hoof bump, as a friend would.

I'm also glad this episode kind of addressed racism and or nationalism to show younger viewers that it is wrong to treat people like crap because they are "different" than you or because they are from another country.

I'm glad they tackled that lesson. So much negativity's been going on. So i'm glad they addressed it here. But i've got a few lessons I think should be incorporated in the future. And by the future, I mean the lessons I hope to incorporate in my projects.

The whole thing was a good commentary on the school system. Accreditation may not be everything. And I think it all needs to be reformed from the ground up, and brought to the individual level with talents and learning styles

My view of the episode. We got... - racism - international war - government structure - 6 new characters (list from best to meh) * Ocellus: Just amazing! Cute! * Gallus: sarastic genius. * Smolder: Sassy cuteness. * Sandbar: VINCENT GET A GOOD CHARACTER!!! * Yona: cute speech but meh. * Silverstream: a less funny Skystar. - epic broadway songs with the full orchestra from the movie. - movie connections and world building - confirmation of several of my soon tl be published theories.

In your description of equestrian government, through study, I have come to believe that Equestria is a structured alliance rather than an actual country. This makes sense with each city having dignitaries and the rulers not having absolute power. This means that private bureuacracies then have power because they provide a sort of structured government, having a rulebook and accreditting powers to give a standardized system. Gaining public opinion, they become a standard though not regulated by law and avoidable. While the theory is certainly flawed and requires more research for best application, this is the closest at the moment. As for Celestia, she approves universal laws, handles international relations, and resolves arguments while the bureacratic organizations handle internal regulation.

I think it's close to that, but less a case of it being any kind of official 'alliance' type deal of separate city states, as it's just a result of the national government essentially being Celestia, Luna, and anypony they give some authority to, and them wanting to be as hooves off as possible and let their little ponies grow and learn to take care of stuff on their own, each city/town has a lot of autonomy. But at anypoint, if they feel it's needed, the Sisters could step in and take tighter control. Less the Sister's don't' have absolute power, more they simply never use it unless absolutely necessary.

For some reason this song reminded me of some broadway songs. Maybe it’s how the chorus of voices sounds and the way the main 6 jumped in towards the end with “no way to have fun” “oh what have I done” and then rarity with “we don’t have a clue” and the voices on the background. Whatever made me think of that, I like it

Movie tie-in’s, check it baby! ✅ I’m glad that we’re expanding to new locations beyond Equestria. Hopefully, we’ll get to see some places we haven’t explored yet like Zecora’s homeland, Capper, Celaeno and others. I found the new students to be very enjoyable. Two episodes in and I have new favorite characters from S8, mainly Silverstream. Her personality is joyful and spritely like her cousin, Skystar. Hopefully we get to learn more about hippogriff culture later on. Like certain other pony characters, I really dislike the chancellor. That aside, seeing the design of Neighsay made me think of Doctor Strange, which was interesting to say the least(including the fact that his voice is the Brain, didn’t know that at first). Also, I admire Starlight here. I really like how she reminded Twilight to keep fighting for what she believes in and run the school the way she intended. We’ve started S8 on a high note so far and I’m looking forward to the the rest of what’s to come! Great reaction as always, Applegeek and I really like the new intro, it’s awesome! 😆

28:00 - 28:13 I think we may have just witnessed the reason (or at least one reason) that Angel has that ego and demanding attitude. He may have literally thought that his hugs were magic and he deserved some perks in return for his amazing abilities. Now he has experienced failure for the first time. When Twilight was not cheered up by bunny snuggles Angel is actually upset and just has a look of, 'My life is a lie!'. 46:41 - 46:50 When he was first introduced that kid would have thought he was too cool to do something so adorable. This shows how much he is already learning, if it means he gets to stay with his new friends, then he is not above using the 'Sad Puppy Eyes of Doom'.

Whenever I rewatch this premere, I always feel so bad for Thorax. Like his kingdom was just freed from the reign of Chrysalis and was just accepted by others, and now they're at risk of being caught in a world war. Plus, if Ember kept her promise of burning every kingdom, his kingdom being covered in greens isn't gonna stand a chance

Well, Twilight did learn in the end. But as far as knowing better, she's as flawed of a character as the others. And they've all had turns at either breaking under pressure or getting ahead of themselves. Plus, she was under governmental pressure this time.

When I first saw the episode online weeks ago, Sandbar became my favorite instantly. He's such an easygoing character but is also caring and respectful of others. I'm a bit disappointed that there are no other zebras aside from Zecora. Also, Ember turning soft whenever Spike is nearby is ADORABLE.

1. I totally love all the new characters, and Silver Stream is totally Skystar's sister! Even acts just like her. And Smolder is such a sass master! 2. Starlight Glimmer further solidifying herself as one of my favorite ponies ever. Knows how to cheer someone up by telling them what they need to hear (instead of what they want to hear, more than likely) in a somewhat strict and confident way. 3. Gallus' puppy dog eyes at Grandpa Gruff :3

I guess the only character we are probably not gonna to see in the show from the movie is Songbird Serenade. Unless if Hasbro finds a way to get Sia to voice act, she 's pretty much gonna have a new voice actress. Yeah, I hated Neighsay too. He has a cool design and voice, but still. He's a racist jerk. Also love that new intro, I don't blame AJ. She did the right thing breaking the Apple's logo. Apple has really became a money hungry company, *cough* IPhone X. Seriously $1,000+ for a phone? Come on. There are phones that can perform much better than the Iphone X and costs only half the price.

to be honest don't dislike the chancellor for being an a****** because he has a point that twilight didn't follow the guidelines and his actions are justifable and i wouldn't surprise IF he is going to be the vilain of season 8 Finale he is decent bad guy in my opinion PS : Silver Stream is Best Student

Yeah. I remember that Starlight's lessons included getting to know someone by doing something they love. I guess some of these classes were similar. I'm still confused by the overall curriculum though.

On the throne, yup, agree that it's likely the ep that served as the reason for the redesign. Might have been a case of Luna feeling a bit slighted by the throne issue, but not having said anything to Tia, and Tia not realizing Luna was upset because Luna never said anything. might have even had this talk right after Luna came back, and at the time she was still too upset over everything and feeling so out of place and what not that she didn't want to go making such big changes. 3 main things from this ep for me. 1. The EEA. I don't think they actually ARE some regulating authority like say, being the Equestrian Department of Education. Nor are they actually connected to the government at all. Rather, I think they are a private, independent school accreditation board. Nothing else. It's just, that since Celestia stays very hooves off,and there is no other body producing regulations, combined with no school not wanting to be unaccredited, over the years they've simply become a de facto regulating body and massively over stepped their actual, legal authority cause they simply became used to being able to dictate everything, till Twilight finally called them out on it. Notice that her entire argument for allowing the school to open was simply saying "Yes, it won't be EEA accredited. To bad I'm doing it anyway." As if they only actual power they had was that accreditation, and they could do nothing to actually stop a school from running without it. 2. Neighsay is totally nothing more then a robot pony suit being piloted by two lab mice in an elaborate bid to TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD! 3. Somecreature needs to give Silverstream a slinky STAT! Also yes loving the 'Young 6'.

I think they'll become new mane6 in 20 years or so. Just look. The characters are almost the same. Good reaction though. And also good start of the season. Can't wait to see more of...everything.

I personally would love the idea of pillars having "guest lessons" at the school. I mean, they are basically predecessors of the elements of harmony. And I really, really want to see Applebloom meeting Rockhoof!

Fluttershy's "boring" lesson was showing a phylogenetic tree! I totally wouldn't have been bored if I saw that--I'd love to learn the evolutionary history of Equestria's wildlife! Also, Gallus reminds me of Noah from Total Drama, with his sarcasm and voice.

DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE REACTION OR THE EPISODE YET! Sorry Applegeek, I know you don't want to be spoiled, but I felt I could do this, considering it considers this very episode. If I'm wrong, please let me know and I'll delete this. I actually noticed two animation errors as well as one funny little something at the end: 1. When everyone arrives for Friends and Family Day, the other creatures are coming from Pinkie's backside, but when she points them out, they're suddenly coming from the hills. Weird. 2. When Chancellor Neighsay speaks of how changing the rules and inviting other creatures into the school isn't done, the book that Twilight wrote vanishes at the same time he raises his hoof. Also weird, but upon closer inspection I noticed that he pushes it away, my bad. Still, it looked weird. 3. Ocellus is in the class that has the Yaks singing in harmony, yet there is obviously a Changeling walking with Starlight. Thorax, perhaps, since he is friends with Starlight and all?

Great review and love your new intro! Wow, loving the world building with the idea of a school for all creatures they had met so far. But I have to wonder the same thing as you, "How are the Mane 6...7 if you include Starlight, going to balance being teachers, handling their own shops and jobs, and save the world at once?"
