I do feel sorry for the Pillars of equestria. Rockhoof's friends are dead and his village is basically gone. Flash magnus's Team is gone but i guess he could try to join he wonderbolts or reestablish the "Royal legion". Somnambula lost her friend Hisan but at least her village is thriving and full of life. Mistmane's friend is gone & we don't know how her village is doing. Meadowbrook lost her mother and her village is basically empty but at least she has Cattail.

I loved this finale! Its such a shame that the hiatus is so long. In Rockhoof's words: "Come, let us prepare for the struggle ahead!"

Let's be real here MLP staff will never do that! I hope she will be one! I want to see Smurf's reaction to it hehehe :P

To add to the "OP Starlight" discussion around 3:00-ish, I'd like to say that Twilight is a princess of FRIENDSHIP, and is not a spell-crafter like Star Swirl was, whereas Starlight IS a spell-crafter. And neither of them are alicorns, despite Star Swirl being Pony Isaac Newton. Personally, I think that because Spell-crafters are ALREADY so naturally powerful, becoming an alicorn is significantly harder for them, since they have to push past their normal limits as ponies. Twilight's limit was fixing a spell (she likely doesn't have the aptitude to create spells), whereas Starlight and Star Swirl's limits are significantly higher, due to their spell-crafting abilities. Or at least, that's what my intuition says about them, and why they aren't alicorns.

If there was one thing I didn’t like, it would be the rush at the finale. The end of the world stake didn’t really seem to be present here. Season 6 and others had more suspenseful stakes in the world being destroyed or taken over. I did expect the final fight to be carried on longer than what was shown. For someone as powerful to be an enemy of Starswirl and the pillars he seemed....outclassed by the main six in the finale so I didn’t get any tension really being there. I half expected the shadow to attempt to take the main six into the portal with himself but that didn’t happen. The shadow seemed to be terribly weak against them. To be honest, this didn’t feel like a season finale but a regular episode in the season, the stakes weren’t there.

Of course you would have a look around before settling down Starswirl. Just remember, when you come visit Cantalot again, say "A Wizard is never late, nor he is early. He arrives exactly when he wants to". Anyone who gets that reference isn't exactly a smart person, just someone who is a fan of old things.

I fully agree about Starlight being an alicorn material (though I'm in a biased minority of the fandom who loves Starlight, while she's hated by many others lol). But, I can't agree about Sunburst. Twilight and Starlight showed raw magic potential since they were foals, that makes sense for them to become powerful and alicorns in the end, but Sunburst never showed any big magical potential. By the way, I wouldn't be too worried if Starlight never become an alicorn in the end, since it's not really that important. It's just like the rule this show has: alicorn = princess. It shouldn't be a rule, just like being a super powerful pony doesn't necessarily should result in them becoming new species of pony. In any case, Starlight is awesome and my waifu! XD

Starswirl always had a poor understanding of friendship. If Starswirl had stayed, Equestria might have suffered in friendship. Maybe it’s a good thing he disappeared for 1000 years. The other Pillars in my opinion would have made progress to advance the land. But Stawswirl rubs me the wrong way. By the way, what happened to Chrysalis? Will she be S8 main antagonist?

I rather enjoyed this Finale. I have a massive weakness for world building and this finale hit all the right cords with me. its nice to finale know the origins of the tree and elements of Harmony, and i like how just as Celestia said Starswirl doesn't understand friendship well. while the episode did have its flaws, i found it quite worth while. great job on your Predictions, you saw all the puzzle pieces and found the picture said Starswirl. Great job on the commentary, looking forward to your insight on future episodes and things.

I've seen a lot of people who dislike this finale simply because Starlight has an important role in it.

This be my favorite season finale of the series so far. I was expecting something different to happen but instead, I get completely thrown off of what I anticipated for this finale. After six seasons, the great Star Swirl has come to the series at long last! I think it’s really cool that the mane 6 have a connection with their ancient predecessors from over a thousand years ago, being linked to the Elements of Harmony in all. Also, we got the Pony of Shadows way back from S4(“Castle Mane-ia”), which I hoped that it would be brought up again at some point. Then there’s the canon appearance of the sirens/Dazzlings, which was freakin awesome! Now that these pony pillars are back in Equestria, we can expect things to get a lot more interesting.🙂

Haber's biggest weakness for me has always been his pacing and that's my biggest complaint, objectively speaking. Subjectively I didn't like Twilight's tunnel vision, but that has always been my personal problem with her is her lack of perception. Also I felt this villain was the weakest out of the major villains we've seen so far because other then doing a few feats of magic, he didn't actually accomplish anything. It's one thing to say something is powerful, it's another to show it. Like Nightmare Moon didn't sit still while the Mane 6 searched for the elements, Discord managed to corrupt all the Mane 6 and planted those seeds that would set up the S4 premiere, Chrystalis and her army not only became a threat once, but twice, Sombra actually enslaved the Crystal Empire and was physical and psychological threat to Twilight and company, Tirek stole all Equestrian magic, and Starlight managed to steal the Mane 6's cutie marks and mess with time. Hell even the villains from the EQG movies did more too, especially the Sirens. Yeah I did like this finale too, and ranked it #4 out the finales. S4 finale is still my fav with S5 finale still being the weakest. But yes I am excited for S8 too.

Ok I am finally caught up... to videos you posted 10 days ago xD. I personally feel like every finale tries to go for something different which is why it's hard to compare which finale is the best since everyone has their personal preference. There were some people that didn't enjoy the finale as much as season 4 since it had more stakes than this finale. I however enjoyed this finale the most out of any other. To me it makes sense that there isn't that much stake anymore (since the mane six and equestria is so powerful right now). I really dislike it when shows make the heroes stronger and stronger as the series go on and then on every finale they make the heroes weak compared to the villains just to add stakes. I'm glad MLP only does that when it actually makes sense to do so. If you think about it the pony of shadow was in a weaken state, the had like 14 powerful opponents against him and never had a chance to regain his power, so it makes absolute sense why he wasn't much of a threat. You can't really do the Tirek thing everysingle finale and maybe you can't even do it anymore at all considering how powerful equestria is. I think for the future the villains have to get smarter instead of stronger, for them to be able to beat Equestria. Chrys from the season 6 finale is a very good example. She attacked when nobody expected her and was able to defeat and capture every powerful pony. However I feel like this finale fits perfectly with the movie as well, since it's structure is completely different. Some liked the movie a lot more than this finale, some liked them both, while some people thought the movie was okay or bad and this finale was awesome. I personally enjoyed this finale more than the movie, but thought the movie was okay as well.

To be honest I don't think this was the last time we saw this "Shadow". I mean, this thing was in some kind of underground temple (which btw has a normal entrance that is located on the left side of the village) for who knows how long. It was abandoned eons ago for Luna's sake! And this Shadow looks like an alicorn of all things, why though? It's probably wishful thinking but I hope "it" comes back.

Did I enjoy the finale? Yes. Yes I did. But it was no Perfect Pear or Crusaders of the Lost Mark.

Does this mean that something (or someone) else caused Stygian to become the Pony of Shadows? Is there a bigger, more ancient, threat on the horizon? We may never know how the Well of Shade, or it's shadowy resident, came to be, but perhaps we can speculate. I for one, have enjoyed the idea that Grogar, a demonic necromancer goat who was the villain of the G1 special "The Return of Tambelon" , may have had a hoof in the creation of the Darkness.

They really needed a lot more time to fully do this story... like maybe a movie length thing. It's an amazing finale... but they needed more time. The villian for season 8 will have to be powerful... like Tirek season 4 powerful. Anything less isn't going to make much sense.

actually, starswirl wasn't mentioned until season 2, luna eclipsed. and he was originally intended to be a one-off until Larson brought him back in the season 3 finale. thus we now have one of the most important characters in equestrian history. I saw that oc :) ah, Indiana pones. my official headcanon is that he's daring do's father- though they've never met, he had a one night stand with her mom. twilight's "senpai noticed me!" face is my favorite part of these episodes. followed closely by the sirens' cameo. starswirl is a *huge* dick. he was not, unfortunately, voiced by anyone of consequence; most people wanted Sir Patrick Stewart to lend his talents, to contrast with John de Lancie (did i spell it right?). star trek, and all that. didn't happen. as for the episode itself- it's a great concept. I love talking/thinking about it. but the pacing is awful- the research part could've been combined with their original reading in canterlot; the montage of gathering the artifacts could've been 10x shorter (or else been its own episode). the second episode was rushed to heck, while still feeling slow due to the mountains of exposition that was heaped onto us. the reason for all this was to mimic the season 1 premiere; worst decision ever. and the villain does not represent a significant threat, either. maybe if he had corrupted some background ponies into shadow monster slaves... i think the key part is that the "miserable world" of 1000+ years ago was not miserable anymore. at least he had good presence. Nice design, backstory, and voice. gotta gush a moment about the fact that when he reappeared, the pony of shadows basically _bled_ out of a hole in reality. awesome. my wishes/opinions/unmet hopes: the pillars should've been the _entire_ focus this season, featuring a multi-episode arc similar to the season 4 finale, with one artifact being found each episode, culminating in an epic showdown against stygian and an army of shadow-corrupted henchponies. then next season we could've had all the episodes about the changelings. speaking of season 4, the storybook in that finale showed starswirl was there when tirek was imprisoned. therefore, tirek is actually the most ancient threat to ever return. i realized this within the last couple days, actually. don't hype yourself up for season 8 too much. that's how you end up disappointed. like i was this season. time to plug one of my fanfics: www.fimfiction.net/story/395979/host this is based on this finale, and it's fairly short. only 1K words.

I KNOW! The puns are just so dumb! Saddle Arabia, Manehattan, Cantalot, Las Pegasus, Yakyakistan. I swear, Ponyville May be a reference to Townsville! Some puns are simple wordplay like Horseshoe Bay (a bay shaped like an actual horseshoe), but some are so dumb and basic they take forever to get, like Saddle Arabia and Las Pegasus. The latter wasn't hard, it was just figuring out which Las city is was referring to. It's not like there was Las Angeles and Las Vegas, both being capable of being reference. The Applewood sign gave it away though, eventually. But it took me till I watched the My Little Pony The Movie 2017 to finally make the Saudi Arabia connection with Saddle Arabia. And I had been a fan since 2015 and had the Elements of Harmony book that told everything from season 1 to 3, and season 5 was only halfway through. Took me until season 8 was around to make the connection.

Lesson: Think and Plan Before You Do
