Only reason Gideons owns the shack is because Quentin Trembley made legal ownership of a property a finder keepers rule. So if you find the deed to a property you now legally own or keep it in your possession

Alex Hirsch (the show creator) is a huge fan of Twin Peaks and attempted to get David Lynch to voice Bill, but Lynch turned the role down. So, Alex is putting on a "bad" impression of him (according to a Twitter post by Alex) for the character.

Yeah, good eye! Although [SPOILERS] . . . . . . . . it's sort of spoilery for the wrong reasons that he's assuming, of course. Ultimately, Stan wearing that style of glasses in that flashback doesn't "mean" anything. And, the style of the glasses as depicted on the Cipher Wheel actually doesn't literally mean that the character they signify wears exactly that style of glasses. Still! It was cool that he noticed and remembered!

It's fun to see you lay the puzzle! Slowly collecting the pieces & trying to figure out where they fit was always one of the big things with this show. Very excited for what future episodes will bring, and while season 1 is very good, season 2 has some of my favorite episodes in a cartoon show ever.

btw the backwards whispering in the opening theme changes based on what cypher you have to use to decode the message at the end. "26 letters" is in reference to the number substitution cypher.

Xyler is voiced by John Roberts, who does Linda Belcher (as well as several other voices) on Bob’s Burgers, which also features Kristen Schall. Fun note, there’s a Bob’s Burgers episode where Schall’s character Louise wants a grappling hook.

I can't wait for y'all to get to the bottom of the six finger plot point (trying to describe it as vaguely as possible to avoid spoilers lol). I still remember when that episode that answered the question came out and it's one of my favorite tv moments that I experienced live. It's been so great reliving the joy I feel for my favorite show with this series. Can't wait for next week's episode!

the message at the end of the theme song changes every few episodes! In the first episode it said "three letters back" which is a reference to how you solve the cryptograms at the end of each episode. Then in double dipper it changed to "Switch A with Z" which was an explanation to the "ATBASH" cipher. It later changed to "26 letters" in the bottomless pit episode! I believe the next change to the message comes in season 2 so i would keep that rewind app installed!!!

The backwards messages in the theme song change when the cipher to solve the codes change. They give you a clue how to solve them, so "26 letters" for how each of the numbers coresponds with a letter of the alphabet. There are a few episodes though that have a different message and it usually connects to the plot of the episode

You just saw a multidimensional creature rip the teeth out of the mouth of a deer and give them to you like it's nothing...then send them back inside that said mouth... It's both so hilarious and disturbing at the same time...so much Bill Cipher !! Really one of the best character of the show ! So much not Disney !!

The episode fans have been waiting for and the debut of the one-eyed Dorito shaped Demon himself, Bill Cipher voiced by Alex Hirsch (Grunkle Stan, Soos, McGucket, etc.). I'm really impressed with Alex Hirsch vocal range and the characters he voiced throughout Gravity Falls and how different the voices he used on Grunkle Stan, Soos, McGucket and now Bill Cipher sound different from each other. But Bill Cipher aside, I also love how it gave development to Dipper who didn't like how Grunkle Stan gave him "tough love" on doing the chores throughout the shack while at the same time when he's in Stan's mind he misinterpreted Stan's conversation with Soos on hating Dipper and "wanting to get rid of him" until he relistens to the conversation again and learns that Stan is only hard on Dipper to prepare him to face the world and gives Dipper the moment to start appreciating Grunkle Stan even if Stan can be hard on him and be a greedy swindler. Also, the phrase Gideon said when summoning Bill Cipher is "Backwards Message" but in reverse.

In retrospect, they really should've been consistent with finger numbers (for reasons). Just know, anyone with four fingers is merely a design choice. Nothing plot related.

It's been forever since I was an active member of the gravity falls community but IIRC, there is symbolic meaning behind 4 vs 5 fingers. It has to do with a loss of innocence. I forget the specifics but characters that have a purer/more childlike outlook on the world have 4 meanwhile the more jaded have 5. Hence why the adults often have 5 fingers meanwhile the kids typically only have 4 (with the notable exception of gideon).

@@nairagar7338 Alex commented that it's because when it's the little-kid designs, their arms are so thin that it's easier to do 4 fingers on those hands, or else it looks weird. Gideon has 5 fingers because his design is so wide, including his arms. (Wendy has 4 fingers too, even though she's older, because her design is thin.)

no but it shows that Stan is conscience about what's happening in his mind, like when he interacted with Dipper, since he acknowledged the door falling in the pit. "whatever that was, it's gone now." Same thing with the code on the vending machine, it was different and I bet if we did hear what he said, it would of been something compley different compared to the truth.

After you finish seeing the first season of "Gravity Falls", watch the "Dipper's Guide to the Unexplained". These are short episodes that last a few minutes. They are fun, short, and give another bit of lore on these characters. Those codes that appear in the last seconds of the episode are useful in someway. Watch those episodes and you will see their use.

The brilliance of this show was always that it made one genuinely interested in codes, ciphers & secrets that activated the critical thinking part of the brain- basically Sesame Street meets X-Files. Hirsch doesn't get enough credit for getting kids to not only think but LEARN how to think.

Hirsch has explained on socials before that the quantity of fingers does not really depend on age, but more so n design; if it looks better with 4, they'll go for that.
