I agree, everything between post cold war and pre 9/11 was peak USA. Strong economy and flourishing job market, honest wages for the cost of living, enough technology to still allow a healthy social life, no real estate bubble, no social media, no wars to be involved in. Just an easier time all around no matter the generation.

Blink is one of the best bands of my generation (02 HS grad) saw them twice. First time was June after graduation then again my freshman year of college So much fun. These guys captured the essence of those years so well that these songs will never go out of style (I hope lol) Their music videos were so random (most of them not all) that it’s clear that they didn’t take themselves too seriously. I love it when big time bands/artists are like that

Being the last generation who knows what life was like pre internet, cell phones, computers etc is another element to this whole thing Life was just “simpler” lol I mean for kids who turned 14 in 98 like me. We actually rode bikes, played pick up games at the park & our lives weren’t ruled by organized sports (we were all jocks, and I ended up played D1 college baseball) We played travel sports but we still played street hockey, basketball, football, whenever we could. Our only rules were be home at 1230/1p for lunch & 530/6p for dinner, then when the street lights came on, we went home If we left a friends house we had to call to tell our parents where we’d be next & that was about it. We were the last generation who had the “freedom” to do what we wanted, within reason, and of course there was the music It’s why I love Blink so much and always have (plus girls loved them lol so that was a plus) bc they were “us”, they wrote songs about “our” experiences, and they were just fun. The music back then was so much better & the variety of great songs across all genres was just amazing. The hip hop & rap. Alternative rock. Pop rock. Pop. Literally 100s of great bands & acts

Some great music came out of that time. It wasn’t all so great. Important to recall 9/11 was that year, followed by the war in Afghanistan then Iraq, graduating from college directly into the bursting of the real estate bubble, followed by the collapse of a bunch of banks, auto company bail outs, leading into a recession. No work, little pay when there was. A lot of the people I graduated with (self included) moved cross country and changed career fields multiple times just to get jobs they could live on. Huge percentage of people who graduated high school 2000-2007 (or so) in the upper midwest and rust belts who ended up in TX, CA, FL, or the Atlantic Coast cause there weren’t any jobs in MI, OH, PA, WI, IN. Bankruptcies and foreclosures slashed local and state revenue, which laid off police, fire, EMS and stopped hiring other public employee’s. School districts cut salaries and stopped hiring, real estate was worthless and contractors and skilled tradesmen had no one to work for. Driving wages down under severe pressure from an overabundance of labor. At least we had a great soundtrack, and the chicks were…chicks. 😂😂😂

I see lots of comments saying "I miss this music, I hate new music" which is understandable and I 100% agree but I don't see many people doing something about it... Seriously, if we all learned an instrument, started a band and write some tunes, there might actually be a musical revolution that brings this sort of music back. Stop complaining and make a change. When this song came out I was a 'gabber' and so I was ashamed to say that I liked a punk song. Now over 20 years later I still love it as much as I did when it first came out, absolutely my favourite Blink song :)

What I love about Blink 182 is they always have been able to blend humor and deep meaning into each of their songs. They are proudly absurd in their videos but their lyrics always resonate with you and make you feel something that transcends any of the goofiness that the band portays. Now thats how you captivate an audience.
