Yeah he doesn't always sound so great live haha, at least in recent years. I still love tom though, I mean he's the man.

Joe Lennon-Phillips Late reply, But yea, he became really sick (something with his throat) and wasnt able to sing for a long time. Then coming back it didnt sound like it use to but now its getting way better! Yay for Tom!

The song was originally recorded with a ton of guitars and tracks, so they never performed it live (ever) before this year. So when they wanted to, they thought the only way they could perform this song live is with the recorded version playing as well. But they definitely could've gone without the vocal tracks.
