It's hard to argue against that. Although Nelly Kim won 2 individual gold in '76, and Nadia won 2 individual gold in '76, too, so maybe it's difficult to argue that Nelly is inferior to Nadia. Two "bests"?

@@pedestrianrights1257 wining medals isn't the only thing that makes someone the best. You also have to look at things like innovation, consistency and difficulty level. Someone "getting a medal" for an easier program done well isn't the same as someone "getting a medal" for doing a harder program well. Nadia was also the only person to hit the triple crown

@@takerkellygiveusbacktupac617 lmao, then again, "getting a medal" isn't the same thing as "getting a GOLD medal". I think you lost sight of what i said. I was comparing GOLD medals. In order to win a GOLD, you don't do "an easier program". right?

Nadia, unlike Olga, is so humble. That's why I love her.

whereismyxanax I love Nadia more than any female gymnast. She is neither humble nor confident after the 1976 Olympics. She may or may not be the greatest of all time. As a female, she is. But she is short of the genius of Kohei Uchimura, who won everything single AA in Worlds and Olympics for 6 years in a row. That is IMPOSSIBLE. No one can ever match that again, and future. Especially with all those event specialist who won't challenge him in the AA, but with the specialist with over 7,0 SV, no way can Kohei win medals in the EF as easy as say Scherbo when specialist are not allowed. .But unlike Scherbo's time, when there are no specialist(all gymnasts have to do all 6 events. There is no way Kohei can win more medals on all events when he is the greatest AA of all time. But he is not like many event specialist who only do one event. How is it possible to beat a HB specialist who only practice one events when Kohei has to do all 6 events instead of one? THINK LOGIC.

Olga Korbut was a great gifted athlete at her time but listening to her on this clip immediately reminds me of the film “whatever happened to baby Jane” and I think her bitterness comes from the fact that she was a diva and she was not prepared to loose her crown. Hugh Jengin Yeah, right...some of you think Ludmilla is competitive with Nadia doing no real flight elements on beam, and a single layout comparing to Nadia's double back on FX. That is the biggest travesty in the history of gymnastics. She was also along with Nelli Kim to overscore their Mother Russia gymnast and cheated the AA, the EF, TF which is very unfair. Back to 1976, at least Olga and Nelly Kim did some difficult skills. Athough they are nothing next to the Queen of female gymnastics, Nadia. Ludmilla's skills are 10 years behind and the MOST OVERSCORED GYMNAST IN THE HISTORY OF GYMNASTICS. I KNOW THAT IS A BIG STATEMENT. BUT LOOK AT HER ROUTINES. A SINGLE LAYOUT WITHOUT EVEN A SIMPLE TWIST IS MORE IMPRESSIVE THAT A DOUBLE BACK? NO WAY!!!!!

Being dismissive of Nadia makes Olga look so tacky (especially after all that gross self-praise). Nadia is lovely in all respects.
@tacksscherbo77715 жыл бұрын
Stacey - You are looking at her comments as if she meant them today. What I see in her demeanor is that she is talking about and relating how she felt about Nadia back then, when SHE was the kid, when she was considered a "queen" at home, and when she was competing at the same time as Nadia. The Soviet gymnasts who were successful were not only built up by their coaches, but were considered "heroes of the Soviet Union" at home. It was their time for "fame," and they enjoyed every minute of it, and were even given perks for their success, like their own apartment, for instance. Now, along comes someone like Nadia - from a country basically ruled by the Soviet Union - and that pokes a hole in their bubble. Now, they are expected to perform as well, defeat the little upstart, and they lose their status as the "Soviet darling" if they can't do it. They are worked harder, worked longer, are punished in various ways, threatened and may even lose their rewards. Very often, their families often suffered right along with them. So, I don't think she means her comments in the way people are perceiving them. She is talking about her reactions as that Soviet-controlled kid.

@@cc_celeste I don't think you understood my comment in the manner it was intended regarding most of the Soviet gymnasts. I was not defending Olga specifically, but attempting to interject some understanding regarding how and why some of their attitudes arose . If what you say is true about her misfortune, I feel some measure of sympathy for her because she was not trained or educated in any other skill where she could earn a reasonable living when her body gave out. No doubt she was not wise enough not to count on a lot of promises made regarding her future comfort. And because I have children of my own, and they already have their own children, I keep my mouth off other people's families because you never know how your own will turn out.

Olga included two new skills but her rutines didn't have power and force like nadia.
@vettegaddia62349 жыл бұрын
Roman Real I love Olga. But of course she was jealous of Nadia. Nadia's was about 2 years ahead of the rest of the field in difficulty if not 4 years. Really, she had several E skills done in 1976 that few can do today. She was doing double back in the first and last pass on a NO spring floor mat when few of her biggest rivals can barely do a single full twist.
@Oksana73057 жыл бұрын
I don't agree that Nadia's skills were 2 years ahead. Maybe the dismount off the asymetric bars, yes. But let's face it : others were doing the so called Comaneci salto too at Montreal and before, Mariana Constantin , at Montreal, Elena Davydova at the American Cup and Karin Janz at Munich. Annelore Zinke was doing that and the Radochla at the 1974 world championships. Caslvaska also did the Radochla and Antonina Koshel did it as a mount. Nadia's full turn wasn't new either. Kuchinskaya and Tourischeva did it.

Everyone's noticed this. The problem comes from the Code of Points which is the judging system of gymnastics. Every four years it changes (every Olympic cycle) and every four years the Code asks for more difficult and complex skills and combinations to get a high score, especially now they've got rid of the Perfect 10. So rather than get a skill perfectly and beautifully it'll score more points to go for the super difficult power moves. They get you the gold medals.
