Sleep Ranch

Жыл бұрын

Our ranch is located in the Northern Black Hills on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border where my family settled and started ranching in 1883.
I work alongside my parents, Jeff and Jodi, our ranch hand, Jaques, and my wife, Damaris who also works as a nurse in town. We have friends and family who come along very frequently as well!
We run a cow/calf operation where we summer our cattle on the Black Hills National Forest and winter them in the foothills of the Black Hills. We also have a backgrounding feedlot, and grow alfalfa and grass hay.

Adler Farms posted your video. Wow that is a lot of snow. I’m originally a Sunny California girl but living in Texas. Lived through the crazy Snowvid we got. Pies burst, no heat in our senior apt. Texas wouldn’t know what to do with all that snow. You have a beautiful wife and baby. Many blessings and prayers for a calm winter

We’re looking at -22 (no wind) in a couple of days here in Ronan, MT. Not looking forward to that. Ready for spring already and it’s a ways off. Snow hit here the day after Halloween and hasn’t left. Keeping outside critters looked after can be challenging, but it’s important they’re taken care of, as you know. Watching the weather other folks like yourself are dealing with makes me glad it’s not worse here.

Beautiful video. I always say that when it should be bad weather, bad weather is good weather. The cold, snow and rain are as important as the sun, although sometimes they become more difficult to bear. What warms up the most during the day is thinking about getting home and seeing your loved ones. It is a pleasure to see Silas grow so healthy. I pray for you from Spain.

Poor cows are hungry and thirsty and of course cold. My stepfather was a Rancher with a small herd of about 150 head of cattle and said most can take the weather but the little ones can freeze to death.

I’ve been thinking of you all when I saw the forecast for the Dakotas….. First of all I love your poetic introduction and the overhead shots of the snow and cows…. Winter is always the worst for folks and livestock….you all do such a great job taking care of your cows..I remember tying a rope from one barn to other…frozen waters are super bed in the winter…that’s what I always hated about winter…. The weather channel always mentions no lives were lost…that’s human lives not livestock….I’m praying that you loose no cows…Lots of ranchers in Wyoming think…oh well we have insurance but that’s not howI think… Take care..keep warm and safe…Thank you for a great video!!!!

When your ship comes in, the first thing you will probably do is build a garage on the new house, and maybe a porch on the back. But I'm pretty sure your grandpa and grandma survived without it. Hang in there, the cows appreciate you.

Hi Carson, great way to start the video with the drone footage and the poem. Glad that Silas was safely home before the Blizzard hit. Hopefully you can build a garage with the new house, so you can keep your vehicles sheltered from the cold and snow. Being a Rancher is tough work but especially having to feed when it is really cold and snowy.

Put water in a gallon jug and put about 1/2 box of salt in jugs, and than put them in your water trough. You might need 3 or 4 per trough depending on how big they are . It will help from keeping the water from freezing so hard. I filled mine about 3/4 full. Let me know if you have success.

I’ve just been watching some ground blizzards on the plains; they are the most impressive. It may be sunny up above with no precipitation having fallen locally. But snow that might have fallen 50 miles away on the plains can suddenly be blown into a prairie town, with 30 foot drifts against buildings, cutting a town off from the outside world ... never underestimate the awesome power of the natural world!
