a compilation of block, neighbour and predictable Eurovision voting

i don't actually believe in block voting at Eurovision. countries vote for their neighbours because they know the artist/song and have the same musical tastes. This is not meant to cause any offense or to be negative cos most of the songs got points from all over Europe and deserved to however i thought it would be fun to do a compilation of how much certain countries do stay within their own region
@el_naif6 жыл бұрын
Petra Mede summarized this in two verses: "Getting votes from your neighbors is a sure way to get your song disgraced. But when Sweden gets twelve points from Norway, it's clearly just good taste!"

It depends. Portugal gave almost every time 12 points to either Spain, Ukraine or Moldova and none of their songs/artists are famous there.

There is one pretty big difference: The Scandinavian countries don’t really vote for the neighbours with poor entries. Sure, when Norway send a really good song they get 12 from swe and den, but not if they send crap. And they don’t give ALL their points to neighbours. Balkan on the other hand, used to give every single point to neighbours regardless if they made an effort with their song or not. It was like they ignored all other nations even the winners. That is why the system had to change into the voting we have today. when the televote is combined to a mix we won’t have to see how self centered some nations are.

For Montenegro and Bosnia it is more expectable since, subversive politics aside, we are the same people with Montenegro (kinda like Greece and Cyprus) and half of Bosnia is within the "Serb Republic" plus basically every pop culture artist is shared among these countries.

Thanks for the video :) Some of those really don't deserve to be called "block/neighbour/predictable voting" tho, for example the ones who actually won the contest. Marija Serifovic from Serbia won, so obviously she's going to get lots of points from the former Yugoslav countries, there's nothing wrong with that. Or Lena from Germany got loads of 12p from all around Europe, in fact Germany has 9 neighbours but only 2 neighbours gave Lena 12p, so it's kinda unfair to label the one time Switzerland didn't give its 12p to Serbia/Albania/Turkey as "block/neighbour/predictable voting" for Germany here :D And the one time Denmark didn't vote for Sweden/Norway/Finland/Iceland... Same goes for Alexander Rybak, Mans Zelmerlöw, Loreen and Emmelie de Forest. They WON, so of course the Nordic countries gave a lot of points to the winner in that year. Nothing wrong with that. Or when Germany gave 12p to Nadine Beiler from Austria, which was actually the first 12p from Germany to Austria in like 50 years or something :D Wasn't predictable at all, actually. It was only possible because Turkey wasn't in the final that year. The only predictable thing about that year was the 10p to Greece. And literally the same applies to Germany's 12p to Tom Dice from Belgium. Wasn't predictable at all. The predictable things here were, again, the high points to Turkey and Greece. Also Maja Keuc, Jelena Tomasevic etc were amazing and deserved those points :) And how does Netherlands and France voting for Denmark belong into this video? Or Denmark voting for Ireland? Am I missing some secret connection between those countries? :D
@kiertavasirkus6 жыл бұрын
Nutzername92a Yeah, I think votes to countries that were top3/top5 in the contest is rarely block voting because we see other countries voting for them. But when it happens like last year with Greece and Cyprus - it is block voting.

I don't think cases like Sweden voting for Norway in 2009 are that serious, as there were several other countries voting for Norway that year. You should concentrate on cases where a participating country got its votes mainly from it's voting block. Perhaps you should exclude top five songs of each year throughout, as they probably get relatively high points from everywhere.
@esmaystokhof4 жыл бұрын
Same with Serbia in 2007
@haniahmed93984 жыл бұрын
Norway in that year is the country( with the old system) that got the highest points ever and EVERY participating country gave it points so yeah he would have still won without the Scandinavian 12’s.

Ex Yugoslav countries form 2016 onwards are definitely not like this anymore while Nordics are still giving themselves maximum score.
@FeeESC3 жыл бұрын
Oh pls, I'm not sure if u can find it on the internet but for instance in the 1st semi final in 2019 every single one of the Serbian jurors put Montenegro 1st. I mean, come on I think we all remember that dreadful performance. On the other hand I get it. They literally participated as Serbia & Montenegro until 2007. With the Nordics I think it's a different story. Yes, they all (except Norway) gave their 12 to Sweden in 2019, but Spain, the Netherlands, Armenia and Czech republic did too. Which is not the case with Serbia and Montenegro for instance. Another fun fact: None of the Nordic juries gave a single point to Iceland in 2019. Anyway it's not the exact same story with the Nordics and Serbia and Montenegro and also Cyprus and Greece, bc the Nordics don't gave that kind a connection with each other. Like they don't share the same language, they have never been 1 country and I also don't think they share the same stars. So if u wanna say something about this, do it right and do ur research. Again I kinda get why Serbia and Montenegro exchanged their 12 in 2019, they were the same nation, but it's not really how it should be bc that song and performance from Montenegro were really...not good
@miloseviczarko453 жыл бұрын
@@FeeESC I'm from Serbia and everything you said I already knew. I personally find this from 2019 1st semi final jurors voting for Montenegro really weird, because jurors from Serbia usually try to be "objective", except for 2016 2nd semi final when most of jurors voted for FYR Macedonia because of Kaliopi (as she is known well in Serbia) and in this case (which is weird, because they are unknown in Serbia).
@FeeESC3 жыл бұрын
@@miloseviczarko45 yes exactly, i actually knew they were unknown there. I mean i get why they gave 12 to Nevena, the music genre, the language, I assume she is well known there too. Btw I loved Kaliopi so I'm happy u gave her those 12 she definitely deserved to qualify

Funny how all Greeks/Cypriots in this thread don't even seem to understand that saying 'but we are the same nation' is not an excuse for voting for each other: it is a SONG contest in which you're supposed to vote for the song you like best - not for the COUNTRY you like best...

The actual Hungarian performer that got 12 points from Serbia was born in Northern SRB. Her entire hometown voted for her. :)

But that is an exceptional case, usually they don't vote for each other.

Serbian televoters gave Hungary 12 points again. :) Probably the ethnic Hungarians and Serbian rockers joined forced and voted. :)

Hungary doesn’t have that close of a connection to Serbia, also Albania doesn’t have one with Italy. You should have included more Greece- Cyprus instead ;) and the year when Serbia was a favorite to win, I don’t think that counts.

Nordics are the worst for it, in 2008 Denmark was last to vote and gave their 8 to Norway, 10 to Iceland, and 12 to Sweden, all of whom were on the bottom of the board.

Bri'ish "people" shouldn't complain about Cyprus-Greece voting each other. We would've been a single nation now if it wasn't for them

Italy doesn't receive any political points considering that San Marino gave us 12 points only twice, Albania gives us 12 because Sanremo is very popular and in 2019 they don't give top marks to us...

To be honest Portugal and Spain are nothing compared to the balkan and the north countries... I'm Portuguese and our 12 points in the last years went to Spain (2012, well deserved), Austria (2014), Italy (2015), Moldova/Belgium (2017), Estonia (2018), The Netherlands (2019)... Both, Spain and Portugal, have given fair points!

Compared with Greece-Cyprus, the Balkan countries and the Nordics, it's not that bad, Portugal gave the last 12 points to Spain in 2012 and Spain in 2017 when Salvador Sobral won.
