When I bought my first house the very first problem was the sewer!!! Together with a friend we sprayed the pipes with the high pressure cleaner and in a collection pit later we came across almost the contents of a complete cutlery tray of spoons, forks, knives, pastry forks etc. etc. No idea but after cleaning it turned out to be pure silver, might have stolen it and then hid the loot in the sewer???? We spent a whole day on it, but in the end the sewer system was clean and free of all kinds of foreign objects such as plush bestne, plastic cars, etc. The silverware has brought us a decent sum of money and we all went out for dinner, a colorful day you can say!!

No wetwipes brake down, which is the whole problem. They may be flushable, but so are socks and washcloths, as such. But no one would flush them. But for some strange reason people flush tons of wetwipes down the toilet, clogging sewers and sewer treatment plants. They belong in the bin, nowhere else. But I agree - these looked more like linen cloths. 😊

@TerryProthero
@TerryProthero Жыл бұрын
@@darrenw2803 That depends on the type. Some are flushable, and some are not. It's important to read the package. The flushable ones will break down far more easily than the others. But even with those, it states just to use one per flush. Again, it's helpful to read directions. I think the issue here is someone flushing the unflushable type. They are made of cotton and will never break down. Combine that with some other type of blockage in the pipe, and you have have the wipes piling up in the pipe rather than passing through. It's a domino effect of nastiness.

They are flushable. It is up to the user to make sure that they are only put into a system that they are designed for, and that, that system is in good working order. Flushable wipes will break down in a septic system over time, but are not suitable for a retic sewerage system. There is always a problem with the drain were the wipes get caught on, like a crack or sharp edge or a tree root intrusion or a belly in the line which causes the rags to build up. I have seen blockages caused by toilet paper, so you end up with 30m of paper mache filled pipe that doesnt move. Should the toilet paper manufacturer pay for those blockages?

Who has to pay for this service. The tennants, or landlord. How is it, no lawyer was aware of this irresponsible group of manufacturers . This is a public nuisance / health hazard. Why don’t the tenants send the bill to the manufacturers? Those wipes seem to be indestructibly strong. Since Ive had my septic field jetted and vac’d out, and given a price to replace it of About $30,000. It lasted about 25 years and I was very cautious of what went in it. We used wipes for about 6 months then stopped. The damage was done. The label said safe for septic systems. That was a lie. Now I dont even use TP in the septic system and I pump it out every 2 years. Use a filter on the laundry outlet too.

I always throw wet wipes in the trash. Doesn’t matter what the packaging says. The only time it ends up in the toilet is by accident. But I think the occasional 1 if that doesn’t hurt. I can’t even think of the last time I did that by accident. I just by habit throw in the trash. I would love to get a bidet. But I don’t technically own the toilet in the household so I’m not allowed to hook up whatever I want to it unfortunately. Even though I’ve explained how we wouldn’t have to spend money on wet wipes and it would be a cleaner clean. 🤦‍♀️

Consumers like wipes, and the makers of wipes like wipes, but I've never heard a good word about wipes from plumbers. Since wipes cause this much trouble, they should be outlawed. As long as wipes continue to be manufactured and offered for sale on store shelves, consumers are going to buy them and flush them. Some of the "wipes" he pulled out of those drains looked like full-size bath towels.
