The Blockhaus d'Éperlecques also referred to as "the Watten bunker" is a Second World War bunker, now part of a museum, near Saint-Omer in the northern Pas-de-Calais département of France, and only some 14.4 kilometers (8.9 miles) north-northwest from the more developed La Coupole V-2 launch facility, in the same general area.
The bunker, built by Nazi Germany under the codename Kraftwerk Nord West (Powerplant Northwest) between March 1943 and July 1944, was originally intended to be a launching facility for the V-2 (A-4) ballistic missile. It was designed to accommodate over 100 missiles at a time and to launch up to 36 daily. In this movie, i take you on a short tour of the bunker, and see how it was built, and maybe what the museum has to offer you, if you decide to visit. There is much more to see inside and outside of the facility than what ive put into this video. Thanks for watching !

Thank you very much for this informative vlog. My late father was a ranking Major in the British Army (REME) and got to see this location with my mother. I can't go because I am too sick so 'visited' through you. God bless you, sir and I look forward to seeing more of your historic videos x

Thank you very much for traveling to these places, videoing them, & explaining what you know about them. I’m sure I will not have the opportunity to travel to these places in person. You are making possible for myself & others to see them. I am very grateful to you for this. My father served in Europe during WWII, he didn’t talk about it. He’s gone now, but this lets me in on where he was & what he may have seen. My deepest thanks for that!!

Hello Dan. First of all i would like to say a massive thank you to your dad, and the risks that he took, in order to keep us from tyranny in those troubled times xxx Ive been fascinated by these structures and the events of both world wars from being a teenager, and the stories that my dads friends told me. I`m lucky enough to be able to visit them now, and try my best at getting some information about what i am looking at, so i can rely back to my viewers, that can't get to these structures, or maybe want to visit in the future. I would like to also thank you for watching and commenting. :-)

Great video. I visited there, la coupole and mimoyeques about 15 years ago. Very sombre places too, especially the v3 site with those poor souls still buried in the lower complex.

Hi brian. There are a lot of bunker systems that you can look at around the Calais area. If you go to the east of calais terminal there is two huge bunkers that you can explore. Its called battery Oldenburg. A little bit further east is battery Waldem , lots of bunkers there. You will find videos of those places on my channel . Thanks for watching and commenting 😊

You present this structure as a V2 launch building. This is the view of some but not all. You likely noticed that the inside was a small space compared to the building outside. The idea of erecting a V2 with odd floors in the way and no actual doors to cart them to the launch pads should have been obvious. In actual fact, we do known that there were facilities and evidence of the manufacture of liquid oxygen found when the Americans entered the area. But, we really don’t know what the Germans intended this massive structure to be. No paperwork has ever been publicly disclosed to show why, even under heavy bombing and mobile rocket launchers the accepted norm, the Germans continued to work on the structure almost to the day it was captured. If it wasn’t a V2 launch site…… what was it, really? Visit Lost Battlefields with Tino Struckmann to see his tour of this facility and witness his reaction to it. Best wishes

All of the documentaries/books including the owner base this as a V2 rocket launching site. I've watched Tino`s videos on other places and he can be very good. He says that he is an historian and I'm just an enthusiast. I have no access to any archives which I'm assuming Tino does. Any info that I have is from books or documentaries that I've watched or read. The place is fascinating though. And I suppose until anyone come up with any concrete evidence then this place will be seen as a possible V2 site. If you haven't visited the site yourself then i suggest that you go, and then make your own conclusions. Cheers 🙂

3 good videos on the V weapon sites. The Blockhaus D'éperlecques site, there's not really that much to see, as you can only walk into the main chamber which has a few artefacts and a video screen display of what it was like during the build of the site. Due to the fact that most of the site was back filled with gravel due to the bombings causing the building to flood , the blast doors, (as you walk into the building), there is a 3 or 4 feet of the door below the walk way, as this was the main rail track entrance. It would be good if the museum had a full history and may be a photo\video history of when the site was captured as there's not any that I seen when I visited the site, the building is something to behold as you make your way through the outside displays and the size of the building just looms out of the undergrowth. You can see how much backfilling has been done as there is an 'eingang' entrance that is practically covered up, this entrance must be a good 6ft in height with only a 1 or two feet of the top visible It would be good if the owners pumped the building out and either opened up the site for guided tours of the lower floors or made their own video of lower floors. Don't let any of what I have said here put anyone off from visiting this site, it is still worth a visit for madness of the Nazis and the sacrifices of their victims.

Hi richie. yes, not a great deal of info about the place, but as you say fascinating indeed. I think that this building is owned by just one person ( more than likely the bloke who takes your money at the kiosk ) Unlike La coupole which is state funded ( i think ) . I love both places . They both have a lot to offer regarding the nazi era. At least with the videos that i do, people get a little bit of info before turning up. Thanks for watching and commenting . :-)

@@bunkersfortificationsandme7688 Thanks for the reply, just missed out a bit more info if any one is planning a visit, as in your video the entrance price is 10 Euros, this entitles you to a discount off the entry of the other 'V' weapon sites ,(Le Coupole and the V3 base). cheers Stay Safe

@@bunkersfortificationsandme7688 yeah from what I've researched it's was built on the person's private property so according to French law that building and everything else built on it is that persons. What interesting is that different reports come from what this site actually is especially concerning the lower floors. The US had a team which included Madam Curies son visit the basement( basic version of nuclear inspector) they said the Germans broke the water drains and to let the basement fill with water. But after that the story changes to what it is now. Quite interesting. Bc where that V2 pic you showed there is a pipe but on the other side you don't see a hole for that pipe. IDK just something I noticed and was brought up again in another video about said place.

@@furious_wrath7079 I believe that Tino Struckmann from his site that he was in talks with the owner to have the local fire service to drain the site out and he's after help to pay to have this done. There is no set date to have this done but it's not going to be a quick job Don't know if this would be a one off for him to film and then let the water reclaim the site or actually stop the ingress and have it open to the public ?
