That's a marlinspike hitch. Straight out of the Ashley Book of Knots and used by sailors for thousands of years.

Thanks! I think I’ll replace the triple clove hitch I usually use with this. It looks much easier to get the carabiner out of.

Yes. it falls apart as soon as you remove the carabiner. The "classical" name for it is the Marlinspike Hitch, used by sailor since forever, because it does fall apart easily but is rock solid as long as you have a bar between the lines.
