La Blogotheque presents a Story Told Well / La Blogotheque production
Colin Stetson | A Take Away Show | Part 1
If ever there was a time to not write about music and to simply listen, this is it. Colin Stetson's horns are played with an absolute and uncompromising authority. His accomplishments and collaborations are many and considerable. His discipline is unrelenting. He plays here alone in his home, a man at work to create a powerful orchestra of tones, a hydra-headed sound only to be experienced, not to be described.

Ever since I saw the sniper scene of "Full Metal Jacket" I've been in love with music that sounds like a deserted industrial estate full of distant creaking steel. Unfortunately, that's not a genre. But I'm very much delighted to have found Colin Stetson.

Saw this dude live, the whole fucking room was shaking from the sounds and it was almost like it were going to explode, defiantly the most intense mind blowing concert I`ve ever been to. And the sick thing is that the whole concert was free.

I saw this guy mentioned on pitchfork and they said that it was all done 1 take, no overdubs, and when i heard the recording, i thought they were lying cause it sounded so impossible, barely like a saxophone. searched for video, found this, and my mind is officially blown. pun only kind of intended.

This guy is incredible. He puts all his soul into what he does and its astonishing. As a saxophone player, i admire him ! p.s. It's a bass sax. I got a baritone right beside me, and it's alot smaller !

I first saw this video 10 years ago and to this day I think of it every couple of years, come back to find it, and it gives me goosebumps like it did when I watched it for the very first time. It’s a huge inspiration every time I watch/listen. Thank you Colin for putting your music out in the world and inspiring so many with your incredible gift!

I wouldn't download it off of iTunes, though, but, he is surely one of the best sax men on the planet, and.....well....I am at a loss for words.....you think of a sax as a solo instrument.....but leave it to this dude to completely change all of the assumed presumptions....very different.......

@JUN34U Nice try... but the bari sax has a much smaller bell and looks nothing like a bass clarinet. the mouth piece on a bari comes up to the top of the neck height wise while, as you can see here: the top of the sax is about a foot above the mouth piece... it's a bass. And it's fun as hell to play.
