In July, after a cold snap caused a premature changing of the leaves up in the Catskills just north of New York City, Julie Byrne took us on a serene journey into the woods where Spillway Sounds, the studio where she recorded her beautiful new record The Greater Wings, sits beside a tranquil stream, an abandoned basketball court, a mosquito-filled forest and a swimming pool. With friends and bandmates in tow, we walked the grounds, and Julie treated us to three gorgeous new songs with a spirit of renewal and happiness in the air… Julie was set to start her tour on the East Coast and then to the UK the next day, and we all shared one last moment of peace in the place where her new music began…
