I miss the food, the scenery and my family terribly. Thank you for making this video. I find out that most of introduction of my hometown is in Mandarin. Now I can finally show my husband this video. BTW if you don’t have this planned, you might want to try some local desert / drink store, like 冰冰凉,缅丽, they have many interesting desert there like 睡印椰。And there are a few very famous bbq shop in 勐海,which is very different bbq style than 景洪

Very southeast asian vibes, maybe Dai people have same ancestral roots with SEA people. Even the fried cow skin , in Indonesia, its a famous and loveable snack called rambak, 100% same. Some area like Kudus region in Java even have specialized "rambak" made from water buffalo skin. Also, you can put rambak in gulai/curry (became a dish called krecek) or boil them with clear soup, let them for some time and it will blow your mind because it will have similiar texture and flavour of fish maw (yi phiaw), maybe because of the rich collagenous tissue inside.

Thanks for reminding us of China's diverse cultures and geography. Maybe you could zip on a train and show us the Harbin Ice Festival: now that would make viewers' heads spin! if you're looking for the nanmi dip/sauce, search for 'nanpie' instead. took a while to figure that one out. also, it's a pretty broad term, it's basically a catch-all for all sauces within the dai flavor profile of sour, sweet, acidic, herbaceous and pungent. if you make something in a mortar and pestle and it ticks those boxes, you can call it nanpie.
