I hope your shoulder is ok soon, I'd hate to think Sprocket was at risk of running low on pets. 😅

Quinn - that complicated device is almost starting to make sense. I wish you a speedy recovery from your injury, and I would certainly understand if the next few videos need to be shorter, or even if you need to skip a week or two. Looking at the big picture, you need to keep yourself in top shape so you can continue presenting this wonderful content!

Although tempted to look at a video’s seeing how it all works , I’m going to wait the test run to see it’s operation ! Wishing Spocket’s ‘human’ a very speedy recovery from the shoulder injury.

I assumed that you not knowing how the final product worked was a purely narrative device for engagement. :D Knowing that you were _actually_ "machining blind", as it were, is even better. I can see why that would be super fun, if inefficient. Hopefully your shoulder recovers quickly and fully. Don't worry one bit about the slightly shorter episode; none of us are going anywhere!

Sorry to hear about your injury. Precise tool grinding is something I look at then shrug: the cost of a new tool is usually low enough that I wouldn't pursue a precise grinding operation. If it's something I don't have and can't wait for a new tool, then I wing it by hand grinding. Not the best, but I don't think I'm ever quite working to the tolerances you are. Thanks for a wonderful channel!

I love your videos and how you go into minuet details of how and why, and how to achieve high precision. I make high precision tools and fixture for an Aircraft Engine shop. I often work down to about .0002 or less because holding parts at one end and machining several inches away .00005 makes a huge difference.

When I was an apprentice, my Journeyman (electrician) told me that it helps to know what a machine is supposed to do and how it should operate before you can troubleshoot any control problems it has. Will we be seeing you demonstrate how this works when you are finished? Always enjoy watching your techniques and every time there is 'something to learn'.

My uneducated guess on the rounded corners of the stop block piece is to limit potential damage to your fingers when loosening a slightly overtightened little clamp handle thing. Bashing fingers against a nice rounded edge when the handle breaks loose is probably preferable to a corner. Either way, it does look nice!

When you reference the lathe 'traditions', I imagine a bunch of old, grizzled, and grumpy machinists from the past, standing around like Jedi ghosts looking on and nodding their heads in agreement despite their stoic gaze and firmly folded arms. 😁

Is it a square block with rounded corners or a round block with flats? I guess the piece was machined from 1" round bar stock. I have just started to test run my sharpener. One issue that needs to be addressed is the hex screw heads in the bottom of the "elbow". They have an annoying tendency to hook up on the edge of the table as I slide the tool block forward. Maybe an extra support shim under the arm will solve this. Delrin would be a suitable material for it.

Hi Quinn! I watch a lot of machinst youtube (I imagine many people that follow you channel do) and I have to say that I believe your videography style is my favorite. I am currently about 80% of the way through commissioning a new building that will become my forever shop and I was considering trying to make some videos of getting the shop set up, but I have zero skill with a camera. Would you have any recommendations for a noob like me to learn how to make videos?
