1:35 That nice big piece of art took direct inspiration from Babylon's famous "Blue Gate". Where the walls were painted a beautiful blue, along with yellow/gold colored animals and trim. Despite the art missing the vivid colors of that ancient architecture, it still looks wonderful in black & white. Unexpected in a small indie.

Man... You channel is definitely the best rpg review one in KZfaq. I just discovered you and can't stop seeing the videos. So objective and so professional. Bloody awesome. OH. And I loved blood and bronze. Old testament stuff. Very cool.

Yes! That is too badass to be able to "go old testament" in your games! I hope they have properly expanded supplements for it because there is so much that could be done!

I really wish that there were more Middle Eastern, Central Asian, MesoAmerican, Slavic, Celtic, and African fantasy rpgs.

This really looks awesomely cool! However, one thing i didn't see in it was a Mesopotamian Monster Manual/Bestiary. It looks like it would make my life a lot simpler as a DM, and that it might actually drop into old school D&D a bit easier than into f5h edition. I would love to try it.

I adore this roleplaying game. The art is wonderful and beautiful. I will probably never play the actual game (because I like to create my own material), but it's absolutely excellent for inspiration.

The greek Pantheon was later, but there were some of their gods already worshiped. Dios (Zeus), Poseidon, Hera, Atana (Athena), Lady of Snakes, Lady of the Wildernis (Artemis?) And some others, like Ares, but for them I have only little information.

I find armor and shields so weird in the game: * A shield mitigates damage from every hit (huh?) * Shields never break (huh?) * Armor can "shield" you from all damage (see what I did) * Armor can break in one hit (huh? I guess that's similar to The Black Hack...) The rules also vaguely state you can repair armor with Make(Craft) skill test. I assume it's meant to encourage a house rule (extended rest maybe - a failed roll repairs the armor but reduces its rating by 1 permanently). To me, I feel a shield should be able to potentially block ALL incoming damage (roll under Def on d6 or similar), and armor should be the mitigator. Both should be able to break, be repaired and degrade over time. Maybe you can break armor OR shields to negate all damage from a single blow. Something like that. The other thing I find weird is the Ability Score / Ability Rating setup... why bother? I guess the intent was for "skill checks" to be more predictable (dice pool) and saving throws more random (d20). Lastly - no Dexterity attribute? What are you rolling to climb something difficult/dangerous? Vigor? To dodge something? Senses is a stretch. I love the map + fluff in the game, not sure about the mechanics just yet. Not a big deal. Would be interesting to play RAW for 5 sessions or so, see how they go.

Hey, Scott. My name is Guilherme and I'm a brazilian GM who is running a BnB game right now. I just came to say thank you for your comentary about the armor-repair-decrease houserule. The first time I read the core rules I stayed "Shields never break and armor break in one...wait, WHAT?!". Your houserule is great and I will icorporate in our session this week. Thank you.

I thought the exact same thing when QB discussed the armour/shield rules... They're the wrong way around! 🙃

I like the setting and feel of this game. Feels ancient Greek and almost Biblical in scope and appearance. Also has a slight feel of Runequest.

I've been writing a weird dark-fantasy set in bronze age alien-world. The first thing you notice is the bronze age, and I've had beta readers stop for that alone. Beware bronze age

Their armor idea makes me think of a way to handle armor. All attacks hit and you roll damage + modifier and then the armor has a usage die that subtracts damage by the amount rolled but if it rolls a 1-2 it also goes down in size to show the armor getting beaten, battered and cut over time and the lowest damage reduction rolls are also the ones that penetrate or otherwise damage armor. Gives a crit feel without the actual crits. Something like Light Armor is a d4, Chainmail/Medium is a d6, and plate is a d8. You can make enchanted armor have a straight +1 to the roll and keep the 1-2 lowers durability showing the magic makes it last longer too. A +2 or more is effectively indestructible but still can have damage come through. I don't know how shields would work with this system though.

This is a great review for a very fun game. OSR with a lot of character and feel. I've only run it once in a convention like setting and the game worked really well.

Are you aware of "The Ishtar Gate" rpggeek.com/rpg/20474/la-puerta-de-ishtar ,a Spanish game which tbh this game shares themes with? Also, look at the free game Red Goods of Baylon which is web-published by Aaron Zawadi. Also a Great game.
