Blood-Sucking Bed Bugs Overrun Paris Hotels and Hostels

French government officials say Paris is the epicenter for a blood-sucking infestation of bed bugs. As France prepares to welcome the world for the Olympic games, some unwanted visitors have already taken up residence. Travel expert Cassy Martinez says in an international city like Paris, this isn’t surprising. Bed bugs feed on the blood. They’re often found in mattresses and pillows, which makes hotels and hostels prime biting ground. Inside Edition Digital’s TC Newman has more.

You don’t have to throw out your clothes on. Just wash them in hot water and high heat in the dryer. They can live in your freezer, but they can’t take heat. That’s usually why they never live in peoples cars. In the summertime it gets really hot in a car.

TR4R - Spraying insecticides in a car doesn’t work on killing bedbugs. Bedbugs must be sprayed directly on contact. They just hide until the insecticide dries. Diatomaceous earth powder kills them. They walk through it and it takes off their hotter layet but even that takes days for them to die. If spraying surfaces or air killed them, bedbugs would have been killed a long time ago.

I had a really filthy friend who let random people sleep on his couch, and he also happened to not react (get itchy bumps) from their bites, so they just overran his apartment. I had one hitch a ride to my place, and I happened to be awake when it bit me, and it actually hurt quite a bit! After that, I went on a rampage making sure they didn't infest my spot too!

The hotels need to do heat treatments in all of the rooms. You can’t just treat one room because he suckers (no pun intended) can travel from room to room very easily through the air, ducts or through the walls like electrical sockets. Spraying them with pesticides has very limited results. Bed bugs can live for a long time in your freezer believe it or not, but they can’t take heat. That’s why they never live in your car. I remember when I had bed bugs it was a nightmare. For a few weeks I had to live with them. They got into my home because of my uncle that brought home clothes. Bed bugs must of been hiding on the clothes and so they spread onto my mattress. My mattress ended up being tossed out because killing them was so bad because if you accidentally squash some of them they let out this big disgusting smell. Smelt worse than death.
