Hey Cathey, if we have not attached y shape line and you mentioned the NS should be given in a separate line, so in this case we shall pass a new IV catheter on the other hand?

You would simply need to use proper tubing to administer the blood. You would attach the proper tubing to the existing line and discard any other tubing you had already pulled. The Y-tubing is what is connected to the blood/saline bags, but the regular IV site with a normal J-loop saline lock is fine!

Remember: for the 1st 15 min you are with your pt, the infusion rate should be no more than 5mL/min

5 is way too high. 2mL is the max. 5ml would be the entire bag in 70 minutes.
