A relay can be damaged by pulling it out although it may not be noticeable. If one of those prongs gets pulled out even a millimeter it may not connect properly when reinstalled. This happened to me so I pressed each prong and felt one move back in place, then it worked. Now I always press each prong to be sure it is firmly seated in the relay before reinstalling.

🙂 I bought the Polish made multimeter. It has 2 wires, one has red & black stripes, the other has black and red stripes. (Thats the type of self-deprecating Pollock joke my Polish stepfather would've told. RIP). 👉 Seriously though, I'm trying to help a friend, who has a 2001 Lincoln Town Car as a backup car. It's heater/AC blower does not blow any air, at any setting. I've spent over 2 hours online trying to figure out the potential problems before I head over there. Two auto parts stores gave me prices for the heater fan relay, but the actual Ford dealership parts guy told me they don't even have a relay listed for the 2001 Town Car. He said it's not that they've stopped carrying it(which _IS_ the case with the blower fan motor), it's that this car 'may not' have a relay to begin with. Also, I've gotten contradictory info about the blower motor regulator/resistor. At least 1-2 people online said that, based on the symptoms of "blower fan not running at any setting", the regulator could be the problem. But more people have said that if the regulator/resistor was bad, the motor would still likely work on high, but not on low. However that's not the case here. I've also been told the physical climate controller switch on the dashboard could be the problem, BUT it's much less likely.

Seriously? You uploaded at the perfect time because my Acura TL '04 is having this problem at the moment. When its cold, my fan only blows when I've been driving for 10 minutes or more, but sometimes it doesn't blow at all. What is this? Thanks a lot. Can you go a step further, 1980 280zx. Blower does not run via control reostat. 12 volts direct to motor it runs. Relay checks ok, thanks to you. Now there is a blower control amplifier also but no clue how to test that or what it does. Also would love a lesson on reading wiring diagrams. Thanks again. Bob

Hello sir today I hade unusual problem I took of me wire harnest I was curiuse to see how the 2pin warning lights on buzzer relay is conected and I traced that positive wire to light switch and the other pin from the relay goes to the blower motor resistor so thats where me confusion comes from ??? What has the buzzer to do with blower motor ???

Thank you so much, and I have a question for you if the relay is malfunctioning can this cause intermitting function of the blower fan or is it like a fuse that when the connection is broken it doesn't work at all? I ask this because there are times when the car is running for a while and the blower will kick in or if I turn the car off and restart it with the fan in the on mode it will run for a very short time and then cut out again. Sure would appreciate your assistance with this today it's -30+ and the heat would be good :))

A bad relay can also cause the fan not to turn off even with the key out. In this case the relay is stuck in the on position.

What does it mean when it only goes on when you slam the passenger door .....

Why not just swap out the rear defrost relay and test the blower? They’re the same, aren’t they?
