In this video we show you what Warsaw has to offer from a contemporary perspective! 🏙️ Hold on tight because the further you get... the better! 🔥 Together with twin sisters Karolina and Pamela, we spent the whole day visiting modern neighbourhoods, chic cafes, filming renovated spaces and of course ended up at the Polish Fine dining restaurant with the best food we ate in Warsaw! 🥂
NOTE: there was also AI and a robot making me a 🌭😜. Enjoy!

Poland being a "poor country" is a common misconception spread by certain areas of the press (ie Daily Mail). The truth is that Poland is considered a high-income economy that is growing at a fast rate and the country has a high standard of living. And in my experience Polish people are some of the hardest workers!

It’s so true! We’ve really met a lot of people who were literally shocked after visiting Poland because they „didn't expect so many skyscrapers” 😂 But jokes aside in this video we just wanted to show the powerful development of this country and the super places and top restaurants that are still very affordable 🙌 Yes, Polish people are very hard-working and really committed to what they’re doing! It might be influenced by the harsh past and uncertainty but in today’s word it’s rare to see that!

Actually Poland was really a poor country not that long ago. So, this is not a lie but rather outdated perception. Poland was simply the fastest growing European country since the fall of the Berlin Wall (and one of the fastest in the whole world). And it is not done yet.

I agreed that it was an old perception, not a misperception. I go to Belgium quite a bit and apparently there are a lot of Polish people migrated to Belgium (from 10-20 years ago) and many worked low level paying jobs (house cleaning, etc., almost like some portion of the Hispanic folks in the States). But my co-workers also said not as much any more as Poland economy is getting really good now.

When I had first come to Warsaw I must admit I wasn’t expecting it to be so developed! And what surprised me the most was the quality of living as well as relatively low cost of services - in any other European capital you would pay for the restaurant meal 2x or 3x more and the quality might be the same or even worse! I'm Polish and I live and work in UK. When I came to England for the first time I was surprised how underdeveloped, backward this country is. I was shocked by depravation, poverty, poor quality of healthcare, education, public transportation, infrastructure, housing and many other problems. Sometimes it looks like a Third World, honestly. And I'm not trying to be rude, I just like truth. I was always thinking that UK is like Poland but ten times better, because it has stronger currency, bigger economy, etc. Well it's not. Funny thing is many locals here believe their country is the best in everything because imirgants come here from other countries. Well-it's not. For most of us (I mean those who came from Europe, not Third World) it's just stronger currency which allows us to buy a property in our country without mortgage. Stronger currency doesn't mean it's a better, more developed country and most of my life I used to think the opposite.

This is so true! I have exactly the same impression - we can afford more when we go abroad but the standard of living, services, restaurants... You pay a lot more for it too and it doesn't necessarily mean it's better. Quite the opposite. It will be interesting to see what happens next in the UK 🙌 I deeply believe that better changes and plans for the future will come, because everyone talks about inflation, traffic jams and economic stagnation, so it would be nice if something changed 😊

@@JayeshChhaya I wouldnt be optimistic, recession came to UK but ppl still thing of UK as some kind of 'british empire'. People are lazy, tend to omit some jobs and there is not enough of some professions. Brexit did a big number as influx of immigrants has been stopped, not only for basic jobs ( which now are either not taken or done with terrible quality by locals) but also some well educated and high paying jobs. EV ( Tesla, China) vs legacy carmakers - this one will be also nasty for UK. @@JayeshChhaya Well, one of your ministers claims Poland will have higher standard of living than UK before 2030 (probably not true as the UK shows the first signs of recovery from the crisis). But ye, poor people have it worse in UK than in Poland (due to high 'base costs', like food, renting an apartment etc.) - from what ive heard its especially pretty rough in Scotland.. But you know, if youre qualified you can earn a lot more in UK than in Poland. But tbh average wage in UK isnt much higher than in Poland anymore (if its really 2041 GBP; apparently its around 2k dollars in Poland so... i think like 1600 pounds?; in 2000 average wage in UK was around 4 times higher btw.).

What you call “these old buildings” are actually pieces of architecture that represent the history of my city of Warsaw. There are different “old buildings”- some are from pre war times, some are communist concrete cubes, called “wielka plyta”.This kind of apartment buildings were constructed the cheap, with low quality materials, also using asbestos and many unhealthy materials. But the brick buildings from pre WWII times are precious and remind of the beauty of Warsaw those days. There is no reason to demolish and replace everything what is old. The city has its important history, and those buildings stand for it. They are going to be renovated eventually and maintain in good condition. There is so much to see in Poland, but my city is the closest to my heart. Enjoy your sightseeing !

Takie bylo zyczenie Jozefa Sigalina, owczesnego szefa BOS; ustalil on tez ostateczna wysokosc Palacu. Okolo polowy budowniczych Palacu Kultury stanowili obywatele ZSRR, czesto weterani wojenni; pracowalo tez sporo kobiet. Jezeli chodzi o nazwe, to mial sie on od poczatku nazywac Palac Kultury i Nauki.

18:50 This abandoned building is earmarked for demolishion to make space for a new slim skyscraper. 20:00 These old buildings will be renovated. One of them has the last surviving facade of important pre-war Twarda Street running from south-west to north-east direction and the other one is the birthplace of heroic chaplain Ignacy Skorupka killed at battle of Ossow during great battle of Warsaw in 1920 - one of the most important victories in Polish history. That's why these buildings will be never demolished. 27:35 These buildings on Grzybowska Street are not very old; only about 100 years. They will be renovated once ownership issues are resolved. The measure of a country's wealth should be the number of its own patents and technologies, but unfortunately this is missing. We are a large assembly plant and subcontractor of simple technologies, mainly for Germany. There is a significant lack of own capital here, which is why foreign capital dominates. We do not set directions of development, we follow other larger and richer allies who care about our sales market and labor force, which is why we are one of their wagons. In addition, there is widespread conservatism and the serf mentality of a large part of society.

To clarify - those run down buildings are not replaced/renovated due specific legal situation in Warsaw. After ww2 communist government siezed the land from a lot of people due to variuous (usually non-legal, owners died and buildings were a rubble) reasons. After the fall of communism, those decisions were deemed illegal, so e.g. descendants of the original owners could reclaim their properties. If there are none identified/there are some legal battles etc./legal proceedings - those plots of land are pretty much unsellable.

It's super interesting! Thanks for sharing! Sometimes the past decisions or bonds are mysterious and we'll never know to whom some properties really belong, especially after the war... It's obvious that the ladies who showed you around my capital have never worked in customer service in stores if they don't understand why it is so important that at least one day a week is legally designated for rest for employees who work in this industry. Is it so hard to understand that working with a client is very stressful and that one day off a week, which is 100% certain and your employer cannot change your plans because of his whim... is very necessary? Spend Sunday outside the city, it will be good for your health. It is also a good thing for society because they can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the daily rat race in a crowded city and spend time with their families among greenery, which is absolutely missing in Warsaw. I don't like our capital, it's too concrete and soulless. I prefer cities to be greener and not completely eliminate nature from citizens' space. Anyway, welcome to my country and visit us more often ;). See our other cities.

Warsaw is one of the greenest cities in Europe. Warsaw is far from being soulless and has one of the best refurbishment plans that brings the city centre back to pedestrians. It'sThe only Capital with a legally protected park on one of the wild river sides with protected birds species living there. It seems that you never worked in customer service - even with working on Sundays you were always able to have at least half of them free. Stop romanticising customer service work, it's entry level and something that is supposed to be temporary.

Poland IS poor country. Growing doesnt mean rich or even medium. Most fast growing economies grow fast because they are still somewhat poor.

I get your point but also the number of investments and GDP level in comparison to other Western countries is quite impressive too 😉

@@JayeshChhayathe growth is directly connected with the inflation, what Poland is experiencing today is the same economic boom most western nations had in the first decades after WWII. That will eventually end and creating debt and more slaves of the capitalistic system will be the only option in order to keep such system which will eventually lead people to liveba miserable life in some years. What you're seeing today is just a facade.

I would assume most of the people working in these retail/hospitality jobs are younger people/students who don't have kids - yes there will be people working in these jobs that are older and have kids but do older people generally go for these types of jobs? or maybe I'm ignorant lol

We've made the research too and according to most of the sources it was colloquially named as "a gift from Stalin". Namely, the construction was carried out by a large workforce consisting mainly of Soviet labourers, along with some Polish workers too. Building the structured in the 50s indeed involved extensive cooperation between the Soviet and Polish governments. The biggest proof of it is that the whole project was led by Soviet architect Lev Rudnev, who designed the building with influences from both art deco and Polish historic architecture.
