The bass player who rarely gets mentioned is Roger Glover who left the band to go into the other side of music, recording, producing etc. but came back to play when Ritchie Blackmore, the lead guitarist, started the band Rainbow and asked him to play bass, even though it was Blackmore who had him fired from Deep purple. Rainbow is another band you should check out with awesome lead vocalists such as Graham Bonnet, Ronnie James Dio!

Lol he also said in Switzerland he heard it on some Hungarian radio station. The othere band members laught at him said he always has intenas on. Meaning he just came up with the riff and said right it's easy. But if the Who can get away it so can they. One thing is certain Roger Glover had a dream the night after the event and woke up saying smoke on the water hence the name.

Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) is one of the best. Wont go as far as saying better than Jimmy. Ritchie plays the riff of this in many different ways including using only his thumb. He was and still is his own and doesn’t care what anyone thinks. Deep Purple was really one of the best of all at the time.

Ian Gillan on vocals, Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Roger Glover on bass, Jon Lord on organ/keyboards, Ian Paice on drums. Ritchie Blackmore then formed Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Dio sang in Elf (3 albums). Rainbow was the drummer, bassist and singer for Elf (Ronnie James Dio) with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. Then Dio recorded 2 albums singing for Black Sabbath. Then Dio went solo and Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan recorded 1 album with Black Sabbath -- Born Again in 1983. Then Deep Purple reunited.

Your best bet is to do a marathon listening to the Live album, "Made in Japan". I think this LP is the best live album of all live albums. Allman Brother live album is consider the best, but I was listening to Made in Japan since 1972 and it was my fix throughout my teenage years. This album will give you a good intro to all the Deep Purple music from the founding members.

Frank Zappa is a bizarre genius musician. Eclectic brilliance and was always seeking musical perfection in a unique way. He was also tge first artist to combat sensorship of musical lyrics by US government in the early 80s started by the wife of AL Gore, former Vice President. As for Deep Purple, these guys are massively under rated. They are the masters of building a song up to crescendo. It's a real trademark for them. To me, the best example of this is the song

Lol! This always takes me back to when my older brother bought this album. The four of us couldn't wait to get home from school to play it. In those days, records were really thick and flexible, so when our mum had had enough of hearing this one song over and over again, she yanked the record off the stereo, tried twisting it, didn't break, then threw it on the cement floor under the house. My other brother picked it up, looked at it, no scratches, put it back on the turn table and it played perfectly. 🤣🤣🤣👌...... Poor mum.

We got to OK hear about. 3 songs and got rounded up and put back on the bus. Our Teachers were feeling the vibes but they smelled the giant cloud of reefer smoke hanging in the air. Lol So that was that for us 14 yr olds. But bro I saw every super group for 2 decades play there and RFK. So I'll be following you sharing a story or 2. I had it made as a teenager.
