Blue Alert issued for suspect in fatal shooting of Blount County deputy

A statewide Blue Alert has been issued for a 42-year-old man suspected of shooting two Blount County sheriff's deputies Thursday night, killing one.

A Tennessee Criminal History Record on Dehart details arrest dates ranging from February 2002 to September 2017. In total, the record states that Dehart was charged with 26 different counts during that time. Those charges include: 13 counts of Violation of an Order of Protection Three counts of aggravated assault Three counts of Domestic Violence Two with Aggravated Assault One with Assault Two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon Coercion of a Witness Driving on a Suspended License Two drug charges The record only lists one correctional action: four years at the Charles B. Bass Correctional Complex, with the comment “Aggravated Assault.”

People can be so dumb.. it’s a traffic stop.. take the fine and move on, now we have an officer dead and another officer injured because you’d rather have life behind bars instead of paying a $80 traffic ticket.

The US Supreme Court ruled in PA v. Mimms that a police officer may order occupants (driver and passengers) out of a vehicle once it has been detained for a traffic violation under a reasonable suspicion standard. The reasoning flows from Terry and is largely based in officer safety. Don’t like it? Liberia is waiting.
