24:30 I think part of the problem with Thor 4 on the villain front was that, even though Gorr was super powerful and dangerous, you never quite got a sense of that the way they did with Hela. The Jane storyline didn’t mesh together enough with the Gorr storyline, so neither felt satisfying enough on their own; in Ragnarok, there’s a lot going on with Sakaar and Hulk and Valkyrie, but it was all tied back to Hela and Ragnarok, so the comedy could shine without the dramatic stakes getting muddled.
@hollandscottthomas Жыл бұрын
Yeah, there was a real opportunity to show the parallels between Jane becoming godlike and Gorr wanting to destroy the gods, and what each of those cost them as people. But we just got kind of a nothing soup.
@TacticusPrime11 ай бұрын
It's interesting how two movies that are so similar on paper had two so different receptions. They are both tragicomedies with flashy action in a sci-fi setting. Sure, they failed to tie the Gorr story to Jane's story well, but the wacky detour to the gladiator world wasn't well connected to Hela and the apocalypse of Thor's world in 3 either. I think it's fundamentally about the sort of tragedies that they are. Thor 3 had the passing of a father, sibling strife, a destruction of a world from a bird's eye view. Thor 4 had a main character suffering and dying from cancer, and a grieving father whose child died meaninglessly, then further kidnapped and imprisoned kids. Just way way darker in tone. If Thor 3 had lingered on Thor's grief for his slain friends, dead families on Asgard, or did more than gloss over the destruction of Valkyrie's sisters, then I think it would have broken that film as well.
@AwesomeFreakMadd11 ай бұрын
That is such a good point! I was so excited for Gorr, I would have loved the gods quivering in fear as he got closer and closer to them. And maybe he could get a following of people who were wronged by their gods. But instead Thor 4
@benreilly951311 ай бұрын
The real problem was that everyone was too cowardly to do what needed to be done and call it Thfour
@CinemaKnight11 ай бұрын
@@TacticusPrime I think you make a good point there. I will say for me, though, I think that the Sakaar + Hela parts of Thor 3 were better connected, specifically because rather than Thor & the gang making the choice to go to Olympus as in Thor 4, Thor is literally stranded on Sakaar without his hammer, initially without allies, and having just lost his father and discovered that his brother is actually still alive. The connection is essentially that Sakaar is Thor's lowest point, the metaphorical valley that he has to climb out of to get back home. On the tragedy front, I agree 100%, Thor 4 deals with a lot darker plot & character points, and Thor 3 probably would've been similarly weighed down if it went that dark. The difference, I think, is that Thor 4 is just as, if not more of a rapid-fire comedy than Thor 3, all whilst getting far darker, and thus those competing tones didn't blend together the same. The thing that always impressed me about 3 was that even though it is a very goofy movie, it still managed to properly present the more tragic moments (ie Thor grieving Odin, Valkyrie's past, etc). It didn't linger on them that much, but they were definitely felt. I think part comes down to, as you said, it being from a bird's eye view: it felt like a smaller, more manageable story even though the stakes were pretty huge. It was also more directly tied to Thor, since the conflict is over his home versus him just being a god.

Taika had a stronger villain than Hela. He removed his agency, completely changed his characterization, and changed his sword. At the end when Mason is talking about biopics and that he doesn't like it when they take liberties: One of the worst culprits of that is the Queen movie. They changed sooo much stuff unnecessarily. Their lives were interesting already, I don't understand why they had to muddy the waters so much.

My favorite and simple answer to anyone saying the moon landing was faked, is that the USSR said, nothing against the landing.
@Dorian_sapiens11 ай бұрын
OK, this is quite a good point. I don't believe, per se, that the moon landing was fake; but I consider it to be the most plausible of the well known conspiracy theories. The USA's desperation to win the race to the moon, after losing the space race for 12 straight years to the USSR, would give them a powerful motive to fake it (and faking it would, presumably, be easier than really doing it). But, to your point, the USSR would also be motivated to expose the fraud, if they believed it was in fact fraud (and they were probably in a good position to know). So, I will now have to deduct points from how plausible I consider that conspiracy theory to be.
