The western fence lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis) is a common lizard of Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Northern Mexico, and the surrounding area. As the ventral abdomen of an adult is characteristically blue, it is also known as the blue-belly.
It is a member of the genus Sceloporus (the spiny lizards).
The featured specimen in this video is specifically a
Northwestern Fence Lizard - Sceloporus occidentalis occidentalis.

I just readthat when they are bitten by a tick, something in the blood of the lizard makes the tick not be able to develop Lyme disease. said Lora Young, spokesperson for the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District. “Overall the risk is not huge, but it is not zero either.” Some of the credit goes to the blue belly lizard species, which contains a blood protein that kills the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, she said. “When the tick feeds on the lizard, they have a chemical in their blood which makes the bacteria no longer viable,” Young said. So the tick no longer has the ability to spread the disease, she said.

If u take a blue belly and take one finger and rub him on his stomach he will fall asleep on your hand true fact

I have a Blue Belly and she loves her neck to be rubbed. She'll always fall asleep when you do it. :)

My friend injured a fence lizard by accident during PE (it crawled on his leg, so he flipped it by accident). I'm gonna be taking care of it now, so that it doesn't die in the wild (can't walk or run that fast). Honestly, I'm surprised I didn't get caught walking around school with the lizard in my shirt pocket. Anyway, what size (tell me in gallons as if it was a fish tank) terrarium would I need to take care of a western fence lizard?

If you lay one on it's back and rub it's belly … they appear to fall asleep. Or … maybe they are playing dead. So, in that sense, ya … maybe sometimes. They are however very docile, very friendly if you can catch one … they are FAST!

I saw A big one of those it rolled over and played dead , it looked like A Rubber lizard , white with Blue Belly VIVID COLORS big-time !

I had one in my house, my little dog loves catching them and letting them go to catch it again, we grabbed it from the little guy and put it back outside, hes still looking for him. He loves hunting the ones who come in from the cold.
