Hey Nic, I marched RCC back in 17 and 18 so It’s nice to see these exercises again. Thank you for bringing em out for this upcoming season. a couple notes off the top, the last measure of the 5/4 section has a C# minor chord instead of major before the Moeller section. And measure 28 & 29 of the exercise both have a changing interval size in the left hand from thirds and seconds. Some sneaky chords. Very difficult passage at faster speeds. Very fun tho. Insane playing at 100bpm+ The mezzoforte for the first section is noted in order to turn the attention towards the body and arm positions for each chords. Uniform dynamic level so that even the crazy stretch positions can still sound even at the mf volume. As far as skill sets and purpose for the exercise: Interval sizes, shifting, body-shaping, and the moeller to loosen up the hands/fingers. Oh yeah and intervals, did I mention those already? For the moellers, there was definitely an emphasis on arm involvement to access more fluidity at faster bpm. Still a focus on wrist initiation throughout. I remember this being a very ensemble awareness type of exercise. Looking in a ton for dynamics and accent heights during the moeller. Vibing hard on the body-shaping & pulsing and keeping consistent connection thru the whole piece. love the BD series so far, keep it up. Let’s hear the diatonic alternating exercise next! i march at a new indoor group and we play a front exercise alot that has the moller stroke(didnt know what it was called until now) i had a ton of trouble with it when we first started because my heights were all fucked up before. now it's becoming something i find fun
