In case you didn't notice, the cloak Mizu carries, is Mikio's. You can see it all the way back to episode 1. Each part of her represents her trials. Just as she took Tiagen's scarf.

I don’t think Mikio actually taught her how to throw a knife like that, I think she was pretending to be bad to spare his pride, and appear more feminine. We saw her going through years of training in episode one, when she was Swordfather’s apprentice. The fact that Mikio said he wanted to see all of her, made her think he’d be comfortable enough to see her greatness. And when she tried to show him, he called her a monster. Maybe she did get a little carried away during their sparring match, but still, that was so uncalled for. And she knew she hurt his pride, so she was trying to appear feminine again by dressing up and putting on makeup. You’re one of the few reactors who noticed that she built a naginata (the weapon Mikio used) with her weights! This episode is a heartbreaking masterpiece.

What this show does so well is to make you like characters you absolutely hate when you first meet them.

After you finish this series I think you guys will like Shogun.

And no spoilers, but you will be returning of this story at the end of the season finale.
