I don't think he's ruthless because he stutters, but I think his mother is the one who is creating this persona of him being ruthless so that people don't mess with him when he's being silent. I also think because of his stutter he can be looked down upon as we've seen in the show, so he plays into the part.

“A man conquers, a woman controls.” Is pretty much the saying for those in power which makes sense. If the lord is out conquering or meeting with other lords in their city/kingdoms then the lords wife is back home. During this time she have the most influence and control unless she has a son, which she will control her son to make choices while her husband is away.

Hopefully we'll figure out the why behind his actions next season. I have every expectation that Akemi is going to use him to her advantage and become a major player in how the country in run.

The Great Fire of 1657 happened largely because the rapid expansion of Edo, the buildings were all crowded into each other and made of wood and paper so the fire jumped rapidly and burned hot, and the fire brigade was small and underprepared, woefully inadequate for the blaze. They had to redesign the entire city afterward. 9 years later London would suffer the same fate for the same reasons.
@Syntell
@Syntell 9 ай бұрын
Woah, that's crazy! It's hard to imagine how devastating those fires must have been. I guess it just goes to show that city planning and fire safety are pretty important things to consider. I bet they won't be making the same mistakes again!

@@Syntell It's been estimated that up to 107,000 people died in the fire, to give you a sense of scale. It was the deadliest natural disaster in Japanese history until the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. Another fun fact: Onryo are said to have the power to cause natural disasters.

I loved how they allowed Mizus character to be so complex. I suspect she’s gonna get ALOT darker before Ringo or maybe even Taigen eventually brings her back to an “honorable” path. So excited for another season 😭🙌 also RIP to Seki, he’s an underrated character this season. Although he spent 95% of the season making me salty at his lack of support for Akemi he totally made up for it this episode, he proved to be the BEST adopted dad at the end only to IMMEDIATELY die. He tried to fix his mistakes tho so respect. George Takei was such a great choice for him 🙏🏻

28:11 I also liked this about her, this isn't a black and white story, a good vs bad tale. It's refreshing to see these kind of stories because they are so far and few in-between. I praise the writers and creators of the show for boldly making Mizu this way. Most would have made Mizu flawless, heroic, selfless, devoted to good and pursuing the triumphant of evil! The generic protagonist.

Such an epic finale 🙌 personally Akemi was the standout if this season, her entire arc leading up until the moment when she flips the moment from episode 2 on Taigen claiming SHE wants to be the “great” one legit gave me chills. She’s gonna spend next season trying to get her husband to be shogun, and maybe will hire Mizu as her PERSONAL guard when she returns from London? 🤷🏻‍♂️

The cool thing about this episode is the fire actually happened but the reason for it (best guess) was because a man was trying to burn a cursed kimono
@kiwi_fefe3718
@kiwi_fefe3718 9 ай бұрын
I think the reason why the season ended the way how it did is because of a different style of storytelling where used to having an exposition, rising action, a climax, falling action, and a resolution we had most of these except a climax, falling action and resolution we're still in the middle of it. We are just used to western media having the season be resolved at the end, but was watching episode eight I quickly realised why we left empty its because it's not over yet. We got blue balled guys. Cant wait for season 2.😂

That burning phoenix is on a kimono, which is possibly a reference to what is widely believed to have started the actual Great Fire of Meiriki, that burnt down most of Edo; the botched burning of a purportedly cursed kimono by a monk/priest.

I'm so glad you guys enjoyed the show!! Not many people are really reacting to it, and I hope that changes soon. I was shocked when Mizu didn't kill Fowler, but I guess even if she has a name to go off of, there's a huge language barrier that she'd have to overcome on her own without Fowler's aid. Not to mention the cultural differences and geographical unknowns. I'm super curious how they'll address the language differences in S2 with Mizu in London. Right now everyone speaks "English" but I assume it's Japanese (Fowler would have had 10 years to learn) and they spoke English for the audience. But in London, everyone speaks real English, so will we get to hear Mizu speak Japanese to emphasize the language barrier? I guess since it's obvious Mizu wouldn't know English, they could just keep it the same as S1 and trust us to know that the "English" Mizu speaks with Fowler is not the same as what he speaks with his fellow Brits, even though it would sound exactly the same. If they don't do that, though, I'd like to see how they approach it.

I never considered the language situation. That's a very good point.

@@brilobox2 Yeah, for sure! My main question is how will they portray it to the audience. Technically we already hear everyone speaking "English," (which I assume is actually Japanese and was done for our benefit). So I wonder how they will mark the actual difference in London, since Mizu definitely doesn't know English, but that's the common language the show uses instead of having the actors speak Japanese.

Also the great fire of 1657 is an actual historical event though they said that the fire was caused by a priest trying to burn a cursed kimono that had killed three women before they got to wear it. I guess this is their way of saying this is what really happened in 1657.

Mizu wouldn't be a common sight in Europe, but definately not as rare as in Japan. European Imperialism was already in full swing. Europe was by far the most connected place of it's time, especially England (Portugal, Spain, France and the Benelux were also very connented). They would be racist, but they wouldn't think she's a demon, they'd just think Mizu's Half Chinese or something like that. Quite fortunate since the Chinese were considered relatively human.

If for the second season they make a jump of 9 years, maybe Mizu is also guilty of the Great Fire of London hahahahaha. similar fires, one was caused in a temple and the other in a bakery... at that time a lot of wood and paper was used, they were going through a great drought...

1 year from Spain to Cape Horn, 6 months from Cape Horn to Brunei, as per Magellan's voyage by 1519. guesstimate 3 months from Spain to Florida by 1492 as per Columbus' voyage, 1 month from Cape Horn to Lima by 1805 as per Master And Commander (best case scenario), 1 to 2 months from Cape Horn to Brunei, 1 month from Brunei to Japan, 4 to 6 months from Cape Horn to Spain.... 10 to 15 months total.

Rest in peace, Seki-sama. You were Akemi's true father. Sooo this ep^^° I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the rest of the series, there are some plot holes and yeah.. ehhh... but I disagree with you in that it would be a disappointing ending if the series got cancelled (and don't get me wrong, I'd be pissed if that happened, BUT). To me, it feels like the town is saved (burned to the ground in this case, but details) and the Lonesome Cowboy is riding off into the sunset. So... it does work for me personally, kinda^^

Hoping it gets a s2. If so wonder if s2 rhey fo directly to London or it focus on the journey to there. Cause thinking back then in order to get from Japan to England you either have to cross the Pacific Ocean to America, ride across America, head to east coast then boat to London. Or other is boat to eastern part of Asia, travel by land through Asia, Eurasia then eventually to Europe. Then boat to end gland. Another if purely boat/minimal land travel is travel though Philippine islands and off coasts of Southern Asia, reach to the Red Sea that’s between Africa and today Saudi Arabia, get to port and head to Alexandria to grab a boat and travel through Mediterranean Sea then to the gap that leads into Atlantic sea and just sail up the coast of Spain/France to London. My guess: if low key they gonna follow like Joe samurai Jack does it with a journey and pick up skills either it’s the second or third route. Mizu travels through various countries, learn from them be their culture and fighting styles while making sure Fowler doesnr escape. Same time learn about her enemy, what’s London like and such from him. Same time on side they can tell what’s going on in Japan with akemi, Ringo and taigen.

This is the only episode that took me out of the show. There is no way Fowler's army would have gotten into the castle like that. Flintlock rifles would have been woefully inaccurate outside of 50 yards, and Japanese bowmen would have easily been slaughtering people well outside that range. The gates would have been locked and barred, and it would have been nearly impossible to fire up at the bowmen through the firing ports. Any shots that actually went through the windows would have hit the ceiling harmlessly. The retreating army (and it would have been retreating) would be harried constantly through the woods and along the roads until their was nobody left. Even if Fowler succeeded, the other Daimyos would have besieged the castle until everyone inside was dead, innocent or not. Of all the damn things that happen in this show, this is the only one that was just too outlandish for me to accept, LOL. EDIT: Also, I'm convinced that Mizu's father is none of the men, that instead it was her mother who was white, and her father Japanese. I just want to be on record somewhere with that.
