By my feeders it's the other way around. The Cardinals successfully coordinate attacks on the blue jays. They aren't afraid of jays around here.

The cardinal at my old home was a nutjob. Over a couple of sunflower seeds, he'll try to fight a blue jay on his own. Edit: grammar

At my feeders I spread the food everywhere so the different species kinda just rotate turns. It’s pretty cool seeing how everyone gets along and the dominance acts within species. Like the juncos will compete amongst one another but when the mourning doves are around, the doves get priority over the space they occupy and the juncos respect that. Sometimes the juncos will play and fly around with the blue birds. The blue jays mostly alert everyone else whenever there’s a hawk or to just state their own presence. So fascinating

The doves at my house are also the type to not give into the bullying by other birds. They act just like the ones in here 😂

I've been in the avian field for nearly 35yrs now. And have hands on experience working with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. Blue Jays are notorious for being bullies at feeding stations. However, Cardinals can also be just as aggressive towards smaller finches like House Finches and Goldfinches. Mourning Doves and others in there family use there wings in a slapping motion as a defense mechanism. They really don't have much beyond that. Where as i've seen Blue Jays actually kill smaller birds that don't heed the message to stay away. Grackles are also notorious for killing smaller birds especially House Sparrows. I've had them drinking at my bird bath with these birds. And then out of the blue pounce on them with there larger size and drown them in the bird bath. It's sad to witness but it's the cycle of nature. That all said, if you want to deter bullying keep a separate feeder for Blue Jays and other larger birds such as a ground feeder. Where they prefer to eat. And leave another elevated tube feeder for smaller birds only. One that preferably won't allow the jays and larger birds to perch and the smaller birds can eat in peace.

doves pigeons an crows are some of the smartest birds ive ever seen, bluejays are crafty but not like a crow or a dove.

There is a move in martial arts where the fighter would act like they are going to strike with one arm, but then use the elbow of the arm in front, instead. Can't remember which type of martial arts it was, though, but I saw video footage where a perp fell for it. The guy was stumbling around seeing stars, afterward.

for the past 6 years doves have been coming to raise their young at 3 nests i made for them. doves always come back to the place of birth...not long ago i saw like over 20 doves congregating around the house and roof. i love their sound in the morning.

What if you made 3 different bird feeders that had blue jay statues on one and made blue jay noises at it, Cardinal Statues at another and made Cardinal noises, and a Dove one that had Dove Statues or figurines and made Dove Noises and maybe they would figure out to stick to their own areas.
