I work at BJC - the ultrasonic welding method we use (mentioned at 4:13) is ONLY on our speaker cabling. It is not used on any other cabling. These are crimp connectors that are installed with 10K lbs presses.

I've used both the LC-1 and monoprice "premium" cables and think both areas good as your going to find especially at their price points. The one caveat about the Blue jeans LC-1 is the cable is stiff enough that it limits how close you can put something to a wall, keep that in mind if you have space constraints.

Monoprice = Very good cables and an extremely low price Blue Jeans = High end cables at an unusually fair price. You really can't go wrong with either one, but I have my entire system wire with Blue Jeans. RCAs, HDMI and speaker cable.

All great stuff from BJC. I LOVE there cables. Great quality and no bs! And affordable. And yeah, I really never understood why companies make a “subwoofer” cable but it being a different color to keep things simple for connections are pretty cool. But it’s an RCA cable, nothing different about it other than color. Lol.

I upgraded to a new AVR and connected my computer to it via an RCA cable. With the new gear, I was getting some audible hum (electromagnetic interference, aka EMI). I bought the Blue Jeans Cable LC-1 and connected it to my computer and AVR receiver. I also did my best to re-route the RCA cable on the back of my receiver away from the power cord and now the hum is gone. The Blue Jeans LC-1 also has great sound quality. This is a quality product at an affordable price.

That's awesome to hear. Cables can certainly make a difference in some regards. Thanks for sharing.
@youtuuba
@youtuuba 4 жыл бұрын
Noticeable hum is rarely from issues with cable construction and more with issues with grounding, poor connections, routing, etc. All an unbalanced line can offer is shielding, and that has essentially no reductive impact on hum. Your re-routing of the cables probably was the only thing affecting the hum issue in your installation.

I've had nothing but trouble with the LC-1 cable, too loose on both my Denon and subwoofer connections resulting in lost signal and bass. Believe this is partially due to the length of the connector It just puts a lot of weight on the terminal. Replaced it with Mediabridge and never had the issue again.

Farad is pronounced Fair-Add. I don't know how to pronounce Canare either, but I know I love their cable. I buy from Blue Jeans for three good reasons: 1 - I can't afford a cable that is of better quality than they produce. 2 - I can't hear the difference between BJ and $1k cables. 3 - I can order custom lengths. (Neat wiring is the sign of a truly cultured individual :) I do wish they offered the option of a premium wrap/pants on their speaker cables so I could have the look of ridiculously expensive boutique wires. Good review btw.

Jimy Hendrix used very long, over 20-25 feets, high capacitance coiled cables to tame harsh sound signature of fender start + marshall amp combination. Eq sound is audible when using loooong cables. When connecting short rca cables in audio system like couple of feets (up to 2-3 meters) with low capacitance cable ( 20-30pF/ft) I bet all people claiming that they do hear difference will fail on every blind test. The difference would be inaudible. I've been using profesional cables for more than 25 years as musician and sound engineer. Having said that I do encourage to invest in good quality cables. Me myself have very good experience with Mogami.

Fa-rad is the pronunciation because it is named after Michael Faraday the physicist hence the unit being a capital “F”. In terms of charge storage in a capacitor, a 1F charge is an enormous amount so, we use smaller versions of the unit to measure capacitance. milliFarad microFarad nanoFarad picoFarad femtoFarad. The oddity in Blue-Jeans is the American use of non SI units such as feet and inches. You may have to convert to capacitance per metre to compare with specifications in other brands. Blue Jeans may seem a little lower if you accidentally overlook the units when comparing with other brands quoting capacitance per metre.

The BJCLC1 is a fantastic RCA cable! It is truly excellent for phono signals. This cable has a lower capacitance then almost any other in the industry. Audio quest doesn’t even provide the capacitance per foot on their analog tables. I would take these over the most expensive audio quest cables for my phone cables! I bought a 4 foot pair for my project rpm 9.2 turntable. They are fantastic for this turntable. The final input to my mackintosh see 47 preamp install quiet! There is no need for me to spend more money on phone of cables even though this is a pretty good turntable in a very good preamplifier. There is just no need. I don’t think you can buy a better cable for this application!

No one ever beats a double blind cable test. That being said, The lc-1 deliver the signal intact. Poor cables, and many expensive cables do no. many high end cables have R/C components inside. That adds capacitance and resistance. That also rolls off the top of a cable's response. Some people like that, and spend mega bucks on cables that just roll off gently. I prefer accuracy. I use BJC exclusively. They make my former expensive analysis plus cables sound diffuse and rolled off by compare (because AP are capacitive).

Did you actually listen to tell if you could hear any actual, perceptible audio differences between the cables? If the Monoprice is in fact $7/three feet vs. $31+/three feet for the Blue jeans cable, that's not really a close comparison, the Blue jeans cost over 4 times the price. Do the Blue Jeans cables actually sound 4 times better, or even twice as good? I'm all for great cables, buying quality, I actually spent $110 for less than 3 feet of Harmonic Technology balanced cables, supposedly single crystal OCC OFC, it was the first "high end" cable I ever bought. They're great cables, look and sound wonderful, I have nothing bad to say about them except that they are a little too short. Anyway, my point is that I have since considered it insane to have spent so much on cables, but it was my foray into "high end audio" and I was perhaps a bit too excited. I can only be grateful that it was only $110 and not $1,000(not that I had $1k to actually spend). I appreciate the video and your comparison, I guess I would only ask whether you would consider it worthwhile to spend 4 times the money on cables/interconnects, particularly of short length, if you are an audiophile on a very limited budget? Personally, I have been more than happy with my Monoprice cables(I have an HDMI and a few XLRs, no stereo RCAs), I feel they are good quality for a very low price. But of course I have nothing to compare them to other than the "cheap" stock cables that come with consumer grade electronics, basically I'm talking about the string thin cables that come with a DVD player. And to be honest, I've compared them to better cables(not high end, but better) and could hear no significant difference. The build quality of the Blue Jeans cables does look to be excellent, so if I can find the extra few bucks I will definitely keep them in mind when considering new cables.

I did not here the difference, but on your system with your ears you may. I look at this as more of a hobby than anything so for me I like to have nicely built, durable, and aesthetically pleasing cables. If I want sound improvement I buy a nicely recorded album, upgrade speakers, or upgrade electronics. Yes, the LC-1 is 4x as expensive as the Monoprice. But, I'm not sure it's fair to expect and/or quantify that the amount you spend more has a linear correlation with a performance metric. A Ferrari is not twice as fast as a corvette. I'd take either car by the way :) Thanks for your comments and for watching, tDS

+TheDutchSandwich Quote: "I look at this as more of a hobby than anything so for me I like to have nicely built, durable, and aesthetically pleasing cables. I just wonder whether it's worth spending 4 times the price to have the privilege of saying I have a nicely built, durable, aesthetically pleasing set of cables, if there is no perceptible difference in the performance. Don't get me wrong, the Blue Jeans Cables look great(I imagine they sound good too) and I would love to have a pair, they just seem a bit expensive to me. And I actually just got new speakers and am looking for some good cables because the ones I have may not be enough for my needs, not quality wise, but in terms of compatibility and having enough to make all the connections. Thanks for the video and the response, take care.

Hello - Wayne from BJC here. Honestly, you might not hear a difference. Over short distances (25' and less), the differences in Cable A vs. Cable B much of the time are a matter of psychoacoustics/placebo effects (this is with decent cable, mind you... comparing the LC-1 with a cable from the Dollar Store may yield a very noticeable difference). The price point has more to do with the fact that Monoprice cable is an imported (Chinese or Taiwan) item, and the LC-1 cables are hand assembled in Seattle using Cable from Belden (a US company). This article goes into much detail about the subject: www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/do-you-get-what-you-pay-for.htm My rule of thumb is simple - if it sounds good to you, then don't worry about "fixing" it. Cabling can only subtract from the signal, and trying to EQ with cabling can be a dragon you'll never catch. Cheers!

I would think too that paying 4x more to go from Monoprice to Blue Jeans would mostly just be for improved look and durability. That is true for sure but to say they sound better... I highly doubt it, at least for small distances of 3-6 feets. I've compared today my Monoprice RCA + Monster Speaker cable with 1000$ of AudioQuest cable I've borrowed from a store and I couldn't believe that on a 4000$ audio system there was absolutely ZERO ******** difference! They even said to plug the power cord of the amp directly through the wall instead of the power surge, yet again 0 difference from my 5$ cable on the surge vs the 250$ thick power cord to the wall. AudioQuest is total snake oil scam so Blue Jeans is the very most I'd be willing to pay for good cable that I'd keep forever. Hell even Monoprice could last me a lifetime, it's not like if I'd be plugging/unplugging my wires 10 time a day (-_-)

TheDutchSandwich, I watched this entire video, hoping to learn something significant about two different RCA cables. I did not really get that information. To be sure, it is interesting that a certain technique is used to sonically weld plastic parts of the connector housing together, but that does not affect sound quality. It is worthwhile mentioning the difference in diameter of cable jackets, but without some information on what that actually means, it is not all that useful. I am also concerned by the mis-pronunciation of micro-Farad.....anyone who has actually studied the necessary theory to understand the fine points of cables would already know the correct pronunciation, but an eager amateur might still wish to make a video nonetheless. But then, a passionate amateur would most likely look up the pronunciation of words that they don't know before making a video for public dissemination. I hope you can continue making videos, but put that little bit greater effort into the front end before doing so. It is fine to get part way into something and then realize a lack of knowledge, but it is best to then do a little research and add a correction during editing and before publication. Just throwing it to the viewers to make the correction, when the answer is so readily and easily obtained, is what disappoints me here.

As long as a pair of RCA cables are well built (good solid connections on the signal and ground, and nothing egregious with the insulation) there is absolutely NO electrical reason why fancy/expensive cables would be better in delivering an un-corrupted audio signal than a basic set of cables. The rest is snake oil and a lot of people who don't have sufficient theoretical knowledge and have been suckered into spending more. Anyone who pays $150 for a pair of RCA cables needs enlightening.

You asked to be corrected if you are not pronouncing the word correctly, so... I'm not sure, but I think the farad was probably named after Michael Faraday, fæ.rəˌdeɪ/ So the unit pronunciation is probably not "far - ad, with short a as in bArn" so much as "fair, such as in bArrow, or mArry." It's pronounced more like Faereds, pico faereds, not far - ahds. Take this with a grain of salt, but I think I'm right; and frankly, your pronunciation bothered me a little bit, just a little bit. Obviously I know what you meant and the video content is of much greater importance. : )
