I liked Kmart much better than Wal-Mart. I've really missed it.

Some of my best childhood memories are from K-mart, in the early 1980's every Saturday me and my mom would go with my grandparents to K-mart. After going back and looking at the latest Atari games and toys, my grandpa would say, "Well the women folk are going to be awhile, let's get something to eat." So, we would go to the K-mart restaurant in the back of the store and have a hamburger while we were waiting. Hard to believe both K-mart and my grandparents are long gone and I'm almost to the age my grandpa was then.

I've often thought about how weird that is. I fondly remember going with my Grandma to KMart and she would always say, "If you see something you want, you just grab it, okay? Are you sure that's all you want? If you want something else, you go get it before I leave." That of course is when I'd go back and grab that toy I wanted. Now I'm at that age where I look back thinking how adults just seemed so much older than I was, and now here I am at that age group.

Miss Kmart! I used to work for one. Sad it got ruined by Eddie Lampert. Those days are over thanks to his horrible management style and his lack of respect to the employees who like me cared about the company!

It wasn't just him, maybe at the end, but Kmart has never really reinvested in their stores for over 30 years.

I worked there too in loss prevention back in 2008-2010 . The store went out of business and I lost my job . It was the first time I ever collected unemployment. My boss was nice the store was clean and well run it was one of the best companies I ever worked for

It was great! Very clean, & updated. Their clothes, shoes & home goods were far better than Wal-Mart, & much of Target. We bought a home & redid it- got everything new, I found more there than even Dillards, Target and definitely Wal-Mart.

There is really NO excuse that Kmart is no longer in Business . We the Consumers are still here .Needing & Wanting the things we need in life . Bad Management as I see it . I loved Kmart for many reasons . They had a Deli , In store Eatery , And quite the selection of quality merchandise also .

States and municipalities should have stopped WalMart from monopolizing retailing. There were other regional chains like Ames and Ann and Hope that could have been preserved if people had seen what was coming.

That's true for so many good businesses that have been going under lately. Some bigger company swoops in and thinks they can "do it better," which usually means cutting corners and making more money now, but sacrificing the longevity, so the company eventually fails, the executives walk away with a fat bonus and, as usual, the employees and customers are the ones who lose.

Sears is still a corporate entity. Bet you didn't know Montgomery Ward is still in business too. They both just slipped back to the way they started over 130 years ago by mail ordering. It's just instead of using catalogues Sears and Montgomery Ward are now online using the internet. I shop at both. Have been for 50 years. I do miss their brick and mortar days though. Far more fun shopping that way and meeting people.
