IMO you can tell by observing the vocalist and the way he sings that the lyrics aren't fake. It's like he's almost telling a story. He sings with a lot of emotion, and expresses it well through hand gestures and body language. Very cool clip!

To me this song and the way he preforms it right here is my truest definition of what "Art" really is. To me art is some medium that elicits an emotional response. That can be a photo, a painted portrait or scene, a poem or passage from a poem, lines from a song, the sounds from within that song like a guitar solo or even drum solo or in this case the song, the performance, the passion and the depth of his feelings, struggles and demons shown by the way he preforms it. You feel every note every spoken word. Justin is a true artists and I can't express enough how all his music to date affects me feel (both sad and happy). Kudos brother, you are definitely one of a kind.

Every version or performance of Hate Me is amazing. Justin's voice is amazing, the music is like no other and his lyrics speak to, almost, everyone. I'm almost an old lady and was dumbfounded when friends didn't find Blue October to be amazing: then or now. I'm on a quest to hear every version of every song before purchasing a collection Hopefully, I will able to find a wheelchair and someone willing to push it down the stairs with me in it so I can get a good seat if we are ever blessed to have him perform in our area.

I love it when the singers show passion when they sing songs live. It shows how much their songs actually mean to them.

Justin has an amazing voice

Once I realized this song was for his mother, it brought a whole new meaning. And also, to the people teasing his "twitching" I just saw him live last night, and it was the best performance I've ever seen. Trust me, it's a lot more interesting to watch a performer who has that much passion for his music, rather then someone who just stands there. And besides, look at his album title, "Approaching Normal" he doesn't exactly want to do what everyone else does.

This isn't a song. This is a statement. An apology to those he hurt. A reminder that he is human. And acceptance of what needs to happen for the other person to be whole. This song hurts me so much because sometimes we keep people we love from living their best life. The fact that he loved the person enough to let, or rather force, them to separate from him before he drug them under the same waves that were drowning him. Thats strength man. Strength beyond strength.

I am 50 years old and I just started listening to you're Music. The first song I fell in love with was Into The Ocean and I have been hooked since then. I love you're Music each one I have heard so far means something to me. You're music is still new to me having started so late in my life but that's OK at least I am listening to it now!

I've heard many versions of this song and I think this one is definitely the best of them. I find myself watching this video repeatedly because you can really see the emotions he's feeling in this video. You can see contempt, sadness, regret and love in his face and hear it in his voice. I discovered Blue October in Iraq in 2007. This was one song I listened to every night as I walked back to my hootch. It it me at home and I listened to it over and over again. The message, the anger, the fight, the peace....all came to me each and every night. Thank you Blue October for the song that made me feel like I was not alone!!

My Mother is still with me. This song has helped me open my eyes to a lot of things. It has allowed me to glance into the future, after she has left me. I am a stronger man now. This song will be timeless as long as someone is playing it. It has a purpose, a god given one.

Everytime he screams.. it's so powerful. It means so much because.. in a way, it's a metaphor. It'a not a scream, it's a cry. It's a cry for any help that he can get. And he screams as loud as he can, but it's so quiet. It's hardly audible. It's quiet, and there are things louder than him.. so the louder gets paid attention to, leaving him to suffer. I think all of us can relate to that. Everytime, I get shivers.
