The Blue Point Juniper (Juniperus chinesis) is a favorite for stand-alone lawn specimens or tall screens. Glowing blue-green foliage on a densely branched, broad pyramid form that maintains its natural form well with practically no pruning. Clipped topiary forms make a wonderful formal accent in entrances or on patios.

Hey Daniel, thanks for the question. Can you plant them this time of year, yes you can. Is it the most optimal time of year to plant them, no it is not. Your prime time of year to plant any plant in your region and many other regions is in the late Fall. However, if you've found it on sale somewhere, you can always purchase and acclimate them to the site, then plant later this Fall. YC

I live in Moab Utah! How would I prep the hole here for planting these trees. I’ll m looking at planting approx 20 or more of them for privacy. Thanks in advance.

Hey Pete. Not sure what soil conditions you have but I can kinda guess. Use a 50/50 mix of native soil and acidic soil amendment. Probably bagged in your area. Organic starter fertilizer. Keep moist but not soggy. Good luck.

How long should I water them when just planted. 2 times a week, but for 5 minutes each time or longer?
@YardCoach
@YardCoach 5 ай бұрын
Don’t get wrapped up in times per week or minutes. Check the planting hole for moisture. If it is wet on the surface and down an inch or so don’t water. Learn your soil and how it does or does not retain water. Judge your watering accordingly. Thx for the Q. Coach.

Depends on the soil conditions. Like most junipers, deep infrequent watering will create a deeper root system. Shallow sprinklers,shallower roots..

If the plants are happy where they were planted and the soil they are in, then yes, they can do 12-24” a year.

@@Frank020 Just bought some blue point junipers for a privacy screen. So how are yours doing with 3' spacing? Excited to plant mine this weekend. BTW italian cypress are beautiful and I so wish I could plant a few as a how piece, but they would not survive in zone 6! :(

@@seemas5811 yeas I did 3ft. But if you Google it for hedge they call for less. I tried to imagine it seeing pictures of some 10 footers. I bought a some small baby sized ones. I could plant Italian, but here they grow fast and it is daunting to see 40 - 60 ft beasts. My yard is quite small. Lol.

@@seemas5811 I read 2.5 ft ..but full grown seems close. So I went 3. On some I went 2.75. Mine are skyrocket juniper so maybe slightly bushier. If they succeed. I hope they take off first spring they are same size still.

One more question and advice as a fertilizer? 11-3-4 as n-p-k ? Will that be a good ratio as a slow release or any recommendations. This is in Georgia yet the medium will be peat and coco coir mix 75% and 25% red clay. Adding mycorrhizae and other beneficials to get roots structure going. Ph 5.8 when I’m watering and 15ppm. I know most don’t consider this factor yet I want no issues with lock outs due to excess or deficiencies. I’m all about key ranges and parameters one must be within in horticulture.
@YardCoach
@YardCoach 3 ай бұрын
@getblasted5052 sounds like you got it dialed. Almost all organic ferts will be somewhat slow release. Your ratios will be fine.
