Hi guys! I GOT A NEW PET. If you follow my vlogs, you know that I put a deposit on this guy a couple weeks ago, and he's finally home! Meet my blue tongue skink, Morty. Also watch me put together his new setup. Also also, watch me feed him, why? just because. :) Did I mention that I'm JUST SO EXCITED?!

His tank is beautiful! Also remember that blue tongued skinks require a variety of bugs, greens, veggies, and fruit along with cat food (dog food when he gets older) he looks so happy! 😃

Thanks so much! Yes, he currently gets cat food, repashy bluey buffet, arcadia omnigold, collard greens, mustard greens, and turnip greens. He used to love live bugs, but he won't really take them anymore (I think he just doesn't want to put in the effort to chase them haha). But he's still a happy lizard :D

Probably he will go nuts with Repashy Bluey buffet 😃 our blue tongue Klaus loves that food and is very healthy I highly recommended but of course every reptile is different 😀 Klaus hates banana and vegetables and insects he loves boiled eggs and sometimes organic wet dog food All the best with your beautiful blue tongue 💕

With a 40g, you definitely have options. You could go ball python, corn snake, fire skink, or a pair of crocodile skinks. You could start just about anything in there, and upgrade later. 😊

Thank you! They need a heat lamp (I'm using 100w) and I'm also using a Repti glo 5.0 UV bulb. The use of UV bulbs vs D3 vitamins is debated I guess. But I'm going the light route with once a month D3 😊

When he was a baby he ate daily, now he’s at every other day. I spot clean daily, and clean the food and water bowl daily. I clean out all the substrate about once a month or whenever it’s starting to look overall dried out. And thank you! 😊

Cover the DIY hide in polyurethane to make it stronger. Let it air out for at least a week and it will be completely pet safe.

Girl you beat me getting a blue tongue skink I've been watching your videos for about 2 years now and I came across one of your videos about beginner reptile owners and you mentioned a blue-tongue skink so then I start watching Mountain blue tongue skink man. And I fell in love with the northern blue tongue skink and I like the way how he set up the Blue Tongue skinks hide by using PVC pipe but you took it to a whole nother level. You are very creative love your channel and keep doing what you doing

@@ellesreptiles You're very much welcome unfortunately I haven't yet because of the price I stay in California and they are going for $450 and up I would love to get a Northern BTS But I believe I'm going to end up with a Uromastyx due to their price leaving some room in my pockets . And the only reason why I didn't consider getting a bearded dragon it was because of your video I went out and got a cage but after watching , learning and listening to you brake it down about the cost maintenance and vet bills you stirred me in a whole different direction towards cheaper and low maintenance reptiles Thank you for that video

Thank you! Yea, a lot of reptiles won't eat during winter, and ball pythons are pretty notorious for going off feed. Just make sure he's not losing weight, as long as everything else looks ok. 😊

This may be a dumb question but how do you get your heat mat under your terrarium?? I'm a very weak person and can't lift up my 40 gallon so I just stuck it on the side hahaha but I think it would be better on the bottom.

For a baby yes :) but Morty grew very quickly. So you’d have to upgrade within a couple months.

Hey, I have also been looking at blue tongues for about 3 years but I could never find a front opening tank that seemed big enough. I grazed this one is while back but I didn’t know if it was big enough, do you think this is fine to last him his entire life ?

According to the minimum size requirements, yes it is supposed to be big enough. I personally don't think it is, though, and I'll be upgrading his tank to a 4ft x 2ft tank when he's an adult

Hey quick question- does it have to be this sort of tank? I have a 40 gallon tank have about 7 fish In there but I'm considering getting a blue tongue skink, will the 40 gallon tank be too much?

Thats would be fine, adult skinks prefer larger enclosures. If you are gonna get a baby or very young one maybe get a smaller enclosure till it grows up a bit as it will make them feel more secure :)

My local reptile store, Animal Trax in Madison, AL, and I think he was $300 😊

Australian blue tongue *lizard* not skink. The proper term (Aussie term) (where they come from) we call them lizards not skinks
