In Australia you often see a squished shingle back with its mate sitting next to it on the side of the road, very sad to see its mate almost as if it's grieving the death of its mate😞

We sure do have some beautiful reptiles here in Australia 🇦🇺 we are so lucky. My children grew up with blue tongues in their lives and really enjoyed having them, along with many other animals and creatures. What a great life they had.

Amazing video! I'm actually glad Ty was able to legally import the Aus species into the USA and produce many babies in the future! Demand will be high and eventually prices will decline, but hopefully this will keep people from trying to smuggling them in

Ty is so humble. He has 30+ years of experience keeping blue tongues, he literally has a blue tongue in its late 20s right now, and yet he says if people do things differently from him and it's working for them, he has nothing to say. It really puts things into perspective when you see younger/less experienced KZfaqrs who have had their pets for one-four years or so and they call anything other than what they do "wrong". I think we all need to strive to be more like Ty.

I grew up in Western Australia and the Shingleback that you showed we would call a Bob-Tail Lizard, their tail is shaped like their head to try and confuse predators, specially birds because from the sky it wouldn't tell which side is its head. I have held a few wild ones because my dad while working out in the bush would find half dead ones that were infested with ticks and he'd bring them home to carefully remove the ticks and we'd feed them to get strength back from loss of blood, then he'd take them back to their home for release. It's the only time you can really hold a wild one is when they are weak from ticks coz normally they are feisty lil guys!

I love that Ty is putting in the good word for blue tongue skinks! The are such underrated lizards in the pet trade here (the US). The are great, interactive, tame pets that are quite 'easy' to care for in my opinion. BTW, I keep my Northern in a 2ft by 4ft animal plastics terrarium. It's great! Plenty of room!

Blue tongues definitely make really good pets. I use to look after native Australian animals and birds that were hurt or lost there mum and I had a few baby blue tongues over the years that imprinted on me so they couldn't be put back into the whild but ended up some of the best pets I have ever had and they are just a easy animal to look after. If you live in the right area with the right weather and humidity you actually don't need all this kind of stuff for them to be a very healthy happy lizards. Mine lived in my house and just ran around with the dogs and cats had a little cat bed that was kinda like a fluffy cave and they went out for fun in the garden or out for little walks. I think they are the easiest reptiles to have as a pet if you live in the right area for them.

I just saw a blue tongue lizard that lives in my back yard. It's been there for years, but I only see it maybe once a year because it is good at hiding. It hissed at me while poking its blue tongue out, then crawled into bushes. It always scares me when I see it because it is so large and looks like a snake. I live in Sydney suburbia, very built up, lots of houses and no forests anywhere nearby, weird how a large wild reptile like that just randomly lives in my back yard in the suburbs. I pretty sure there is more than one as well.

my guys, live in Australia also so in the country parts, we often see "shingle backs" but we aussies call them bobtails. We see more bobtails then actual blue tongues. We have lots visits from both blue tongues and bobtails due to our dogs water bowls. When i always get close to the bobtails, not so much blue tongues. If i have time I'll feed them apples or other fruits. The dogs ignore the lizards when they come into our yard and walk to lay down while they do as they want in our yard. Bobtails are more friendly and calm compared to blue tongues.

It takes about 7 generations to see behavior selection show up in a dramatic fashion and it usually shows up around the same time color mutations starts popping up. The point at which something is declared domesticated is arbitrary :)

I dont really like morphs either, I like an odd one here and there, and I do have a leucistic leopard gecko that I bought from a corner pet store when I was fourteen and an albino kingsnake that was rescued from a glue trap. But one of the morphs I just cant understand is the albino blue tongue skink. It doesn't have a blue tongue! That's a deal breaker for me.

Hey it would be amazing to do an episode at the Broome crocodile farm in Australia during breeding season. If you want adrenaline and adventure try being separated from a 5 meter salt water crocodile by only 1.5 metre high chicken wire! Or collecting eggs from a crocodile nest from a group of 40 salt water crocodiles with no fences and just 3 guys with sticks, would make an amazing episode
