Great comparison video. I've been using the Blue Yeti for about a year now mostly in my home office setup but also in some KZfaq projects and loved the ease and quality for someone like me with minimal technical audio experience. I recently found the Q2U at a thrift shop for only $6 so I had to pick it up. Based on this video the Q2U is really more what I'm looking for with close up voiceover recording and even conferencing. My voice sounds cleaner with tighter pitch and less like I'm in a room with some reverb.

if I have the mic on its stand and its on the left of me so not in front of me(cuz it blocks view while gaming) is it still good enough then or do I really need to find a way to have it in front of me, so what im saying is; if I have it right next to the left side of the keyboard on the desk, deos it still work well?

The Q2U sounds so much better. 🤨 Why was did it take 3 site review lists of mics for youtube, then 5 comparison videos of mics for youtube to finally randomly seeing someone talking about the Q2U in the comments of one of those videos for me to hear about it. Thank for making this vs video. I'm ordering a Q2U

The SM7B is actually way better at handling plosives, but then that’s one of the reasons it costs more.

@@Matthew_Raymond It is, only because the the windscreen the Q2U comes with is bad. I bought a bigger, thicker foam windscreen off amazon for $10 and it got rid of plosives all together. Now i've got a mic that sounds close enough to the SM7B while being a fifth of the price.

My question is... If you are using KRISP or NVIDIA BROADCAST (if you own a RTX GPU) that CUTS OUT BACKGROUND NOISE AND ECHO WITH AI, does that result in better audio quality than if cutting the background noise and stuff through OBS? I guess I should just watch a video on that, but yeah, that's a very important question to note with the rise of AI-powered apps that give us background noise removal in real time

I went for the Q2U, just got it, so not done much testing yet. My son has the Blue Yeti and it just picked up too much background in my un-treated room, whih is how I will be using it anyway, so Q2U seems a better choice for me.

Because q2u is a dynamic mic. Yeti is a condenser mic

Samson q2u for sure, it's a dynamic mic so it's made for that, especially if you have 2 people in a room. I just bought it for my podcast, you can check out how it sounds on the Midnight Kebab Podcast

Seems like most people who are overly critical of the Yeti do not know how to use it properly. This includes this review. It is not designed to be used 1 foot away. It's not the greatest, but the hyper critical bandwagon is getting a bit repetitive. I do believe most would benefit from working on their voice and not blaming the mic for lack of vocal ability.

Got a used Blue Yeti £74, works good for videos but I also want to use it in music software, however despite it being listed as supported and showing as an audio input/output device I'm getting no audio.

NIce video. Can you adjust the gain on the Q2U? If say you wanna place it further away vs handheld. I mean so that you avoid distorting the signal? I assume the pattern is a cardiod pattern, with the back not picking up anything. So to pick up several people they would have to sit in front of the mic, which is doable if one can place it further away and get their speaking or singing picked up anyway. I have doubt: What makes it less sensitive to the surroundings: The smaller diaphragm? After all it is still a condenser microphone right but I don't know if the BLue Yeti is a cardioid as well (ok I read it has the cardiod pattern as well). At least I have seen it marketed as a condenser microphone (Q2U), although I know all are so, including the dynamic ones. SO I just read that the difference owes to the "condenser" one having a thinner more sensitive membrane which is more easily picking up even small noises from far away. AM I getting this right? BOnus question: CAn one turn the Q2U into wireless mic, with some pocket transmitter?

i think condenser mics have gain since its a dynamic mic theres no problem with gain q2u dosnt pick background noise coz it has a fixed cardiod mode i hope it helps u

The problem with the Blue Yeti is people don’t use it correctly and don’t always set the polar pattern correctly on the microphone. I have the Q2U because of a REI’s done by podcastage channel. The Q2U is way more intuitive to use for beginners and it has a better price.

If you live by the road, highway, population dense place then condenser microphone is 100% out of your option. It's going to pick up everything, the sound of car passing, motorcycle passing, fan, air conditioner, dogs barking, people talking outside, and the natural noise you don't usually hear.

Thanks, my month old FiFine T669 died today so I'm looking for a replacement. Last year in the UK I could not get hold of a Samson 2QU but Amazon have them today at £65, Yeti is £109, so there is a price gap. "Better" can be pejorative a word so I'll just say I personally prefer the sound of the 2QU in this test plus it's better for my pocketbook. It's a little cheaper than the T669 too. One question is it worth getting a suspension arm for the 2QU or is it not troubled by vibration from the desk tripod?

If it’s Q2U I use Framework’s stand and it fits without any adapter. (Frameworks GFW-MIC-0821)

The Blue Yeti is in a different class. A full, warm, clear, broadcasting quality sound. By comparison the Samson is high-pitched, tense and tinny. No contest at all. Thought it might be much much closer since I was thinking of buying the Q2U.
