I've seen Bluebeard in our local theatre in 1973 as a teenager and went to see it again for several times in the next few months. The movie has its ups and downs but I remember enjoying Richard Burton's performance and I found the introductory sequence as well as the opening credits music by Ennio Morricone quite thrilling. Thanks for sharing!

With Nino Rota's score for "The Godfather" out of the running for the 1972 Oscar because he had lifted the main theme from his own previous work, was there really a better, more melodic, more iconic score than this one that year? I think not. Once again, Morricone got overlooked.

It is just a teeny bit tedious the way that mandolin riff never changes.

+TallSilentGuy I can understand your sentiment. The way I look at it is it's the way the orchestration moves around it is what gives it nuance. Incidentally it's a cymbalom, a much loved central European instrument, brought to prominence by John Barry in The Ipcress File.
