North Chesterfield, VA 23235 If you enjoyed this video please consider subscribing! Come along with me as we spend some time preserving our garlic scapes.
We are processing our garlic scapes and dehydrating them for future use. If you didn't know already when you grow garlic it produces a scape which is like a long stem that the flower/seeds grows on. This stem is edible and actually quite delicious!
As always thank you so much for watching!

Garlic scape powder is so good! I’ve also found with those flower heads that if you leave the scape in a jar of water, the flower head will continue developing and you’ll get a bunch of mini garlic cloves for a bonus! I discovered that completely by accident because I took too long to take care of my garlic scapes one year, so now I always do that with a couple scapes on purpose.

Ohhh man that would have been such a great idea! I already put them in the compost, shucks. I will be remembering that for next year! I typically film about 2 weeks or so before it goes onto KZfaq, but I saw your garlic scape video after I already did this and I wish I would have tried to make some pesto with mine too! -Cara

Hi Cara! I still have scapes from last summer in the freezer...must use them! My garlic scapes are now starting to curl a little bit, I'm so excited to harvest them. I make scape and potato soup in the winter. I also add the scapes to pastas and fricassees!! You have a huge harvest there!! ♥ I need to treat myself to a proper dehydrator this summer. I love that you powdered the scapes, that's an amazing idea!
