It is pretty cool when you harness the power of two plugins to solve a problem. In the video below you will see how to run a plugin in one computer using Patchwork and sending the audio back and forth with Connector from a different computer.

I landed here after I saw a promo for this plugin. Thanks for explaining! I initially thought this was a loopback plugin of sorts but now, I realize this is a CPU resource offloader. This is a big help for those using resource intensive plugins and huge sessions,. It's probably a big help too to those with CPUs that aren't great at multi-threaded work?

Well it is actually a plug-in to send/receive audio or MIDI between apps or computers. It's just that combined with PatchWork you can indeed use it for this purpose.

@@bluecataudioMIDI too!? That's cool! May I ask a question? Let's say I arm a track on a DAW which doesn't support MIDI (like Fairlight, Audacity, and Adobe Audition) will I be able to send MIDI or audio output using this on the track armed for recording from a separate computer that has Cubase/Ableton? Thanks!
@bluecataudio
@bluecataudio 5 ай бұрын
If the DAW does not support MIDI I am afraid it will not be able to do anything with it. However if you want to control a virtual instrument, you can load both Connector and the Instrument inside the PatchWork and control the instrument remotely from Cubase, as PatchWork knows how to route MIDI between plug-ins. @@MattStevens9824

Latency wise with this or even as Localhost in the same computer... This is a really great example when its your entire mix bus and all audio flowing out and back in and monitoring only that vs putting connector in as an insert on just a track or bus, because even if in this example... Turn that thru up and it will be delayed - so why wasn't that covered in this video?? I have a support ticket out on this currently, but no on explains it, not even the manual :-(

On Windows the setup is exactly the same (except that you can use machine names instead of IP addresses). PatchWork is indeed required if you want to run a processing server as demonstrated here.

It depends on your setup. If the network is properly set (either with fixed IP or DHCP reservation), IP addresses should remain the same. You can even recall PatchWork presets remotely using MIDI Bank Select and program change messages.

Yes there is no built-in remote control access. You can send MIDI data to control the PatchWork instance directly. It behaves just like external physical gear.

Can you guys please please make a asymmetrical distortion plug-in that's like the Clip Distortion from Logic Pro or Distroyer Plug-in from Cubase? I always wanted an asymmetrical distortion like this so that I can make hardstyle kicks and other buzzy basses in my projects. I have a simple sound card, it is not suitable for loopback.. Is this software suitable so that I can loop back the output in Cubase and record the sound? So .. If I open an audio track that I effect with, for example, a reverb, then open another audio track below it, and start playback here and record the previous track in real-time (that is, everything that can be heard on the main output) ??
@bluecataudio
@bluecataudio 10 ай бұрын
I think it should indeed work. To record you will however have to use an aux bus with the plug-in on it (as receiver) and us this aux bus as input for the recording track.

How does this work with multiple instances / plugins in Patchwork Standalone on the remote machine? Allow me to go down the rabbit hole: In trying, It seems like the virtual connection is a single 2 channel device only. If you startup multiple instances, then the port adjustments affect all instances. The only workaround I can think of is running patchwork starting with the FULL preset and the adding a separate connector set in the First and Last slot of the parallel chains. Perhaps there is an easier way I'm missing? Maybe setting up individual Patchwork chains in a VST3 and then importing those into Patchwork standalone? Ultimately it would be great if you set the I/O on network audio mode each to a different port number (or just map them sequentially from a starting port number for easy routing). Then all the internal routing would basically be the same as using a direct ASIO link, but with connector ports. I'm thinking of a use case where, basically, you could setup 8 reverb/delays at the same time coming in/out on different connectors. It seems like patchwork should be able to handle this multi I/O with ease.
@bluecataudio
@bluecataudio Жыл бұрын
Using parallel chains wit separate COnnectors is indeed the way to go if you want to process several streams in parallel. There are more details about this here: www.bluecataudio.com/Blog/tip-of-the-day/offloading-plug-ins-processing-to-another-computer/

Just to avoid using the WiFi connection by mistake... You want to make sure you use the wired connection here, or the latency will be much larger.

Thtee questions: 1) can connect synchronize two DAW's on two computers? 2) if one computer plays project and I want to play a VSTi synth on another computer will there be a big latency or not? 3) Can I write from one computer's DAW to another DAW on another computer though connect? (live)
@bluecataudio
@bluecataudio Жыл бұрын
Synchronization is not possible because unfortunately a plug-in is not able to send sync signals to a DAW. You could however do it via MIDI but that's an extra cable... The latency depends on the network and the DAW settings, we have an article about how to optimize this in the support. But yes there will be some latency. You can definitely record in another DAW, as shown in our other video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNhnp8hqzeDHhqc.html

@bluecataudio
@bluecataudio Жыл бұрын
@@timsamsung3736 Unfortunately this is a limitation on how plug-ins works. For MIDI you can sync up DAWs in general using MIDI, so you would simply need a MIDI cable to connect the output of your MIDI interface back to the input and make sure that one DAW is send MIDI sync messages to the other via this MIDI interface
