Ninety per cent of cargo goods are carried by sea and the maritime sector is responsible for 3% of global CO2 emissions, making it one of the world’s most concentrated sources of pollution.
BlueNose develops solutions to improve the aerodynamics of merchant navy vessels, particularly container ships, in order to reduce their fuel consumption by up to 5%. This is done by generating structures that are developed using an in-house algorithm that generates optimised, custom shapes based on the operational conditions of the targeted ships. This reduction in fuel consumption will directly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, translating to emission reductions of 3,000 tons of CO2 per ship, per year on average.
