I haven't heard anything about the cast iron weight that was cast to fit around the frame in the back so it would not do a nose dive when you stepped on the brakes hard. The FC-150 that I had came with a cabover popup camper so the cast iron weight came along with it with the "U" bolts cut off and sat in my driveway. The camper weighed probably more than the 350# that I was told the cast iron one weighed. I was 4-wheeling above Ouray and came across a Bronco that was having trouble getting up a steep hill. So to put him to shame I ran right past him with no trouble. The FC could climb a telephone pole, it was a problem coming down. I came down the same hill with my wife screaming at me, and me telling her their was no problem. When I looked in the mirror coming down, it looked like the rear tires were 6' off the ground. Obviously the weren't but it was enough to put tear drops in your pants. When we got back to our camp, I noticed a dent in the front corner of the body that was not there when we left camp. I am sure it was from the trip down that slope. but I didn't let my wife now about it for a few years. I would have given anything for that weight to have been hanging under the back along with the camper rather than sitting in my drive way at home.

The passenger seat I don't think is original to the truck but a great idea. My dad had one of these back in the early 60's for his Shell Service Station, in fact it was a 57 just like this one. When I went places with my dad I would sit on top of the engine box. The passenger seat was just like the drivers seat in size. I love this thing. It brings back good memories.

I used to have one of those Brooklands books that was a compilation of old magazine road tests and such, covering Land Cruisers. One of those articles mentioned that the test rig had Longmont Dual-Matic front hubs, which looked very much like those on this FC-150. I like this little rig a lot, especially its unique styling and the sound of that Hurricane F-head. And its unbelievably clean (I've heard they rust horribly, especially if driven on salted roads). I hope the lucky owner is having a blast with it!

These COE Jeeps are rad. Found one in a barn on my step-cousin’s farm, but too far gone. Yours is a real honey.

Thank you for the detailed walk around. Currently placing an 60 fc cab on a tj drivetrain and all these close ups are so invaluable. Beautiful rig

62 years young. How do you remove the engine, body must come off or drop it down with the lift in the air.

Good question. I would imagine you could take a door off maybe and get a cherry picker in there, that’s what I would try first. But yeah the cab would be the next thing, or possibly underneath, you bring up a good question, lol I really don’t know what would be the best. Hopefully someone gets on here and has done that before and let us know.

@@blueovalranch: I used to have one of these. I installed the little 215 in³ aluminum V-8 from a 1961 Oldsmobile F-85, with A/C, P/S, alternator, and so on. The FC-170 was the 3/4-ton version, and it had wider axles. There was a model with dual rear wheels (FC-170 DRW) which used a unique Dana 70 rear axle. Tough stuff. The FC-150 received wider axles during its 1961 model year, which remained until the end of its run in 1964. The only practical way to remove the engine is to lift the cab off the chassis, and that cab is a lot heavier than it looks. I would estimate that it weighs well over six hundred pounds. The steel and glass were much thicker in 1957!
