@@chlli Personally, I do enjoy seeing peoples' reactions. It adds another layer to the experience and it's especially fun as the creator to see how people process it. Also, just in case it's not clear, Blue made this video with my permission and blessing, so there's no theft going on here. Blue has a larger audience than my channel at the moment, so I'm happy to see a broader audience get to enjoy what I spent so much time making.

Yeah, like with NES tas they can press left and right at the same time which is physically not possible on an actual controller. Nothing like that here. So if you had infinite precision you COULD do this on a keyboard/mouse or controller etc…

A human could do any one of these inputs once with enough practice, but the likelihood of a human being able to string together multiple of these inputs in a single run is impossible.

@@Fogmeister it actually is possible to press both directions on an NES controller if you modify the dpad by filing away a little bump on the bottom. Repeated use of the controller eventually removes the bump on its own, so most speedruns allow people to just open their controllers and do it themselves.

I mean, I wouldn't call it humanly impossible. If one in every ten humans on the face of the entire earth were to learn how to speedrun the game and then try to do this ten-thousand times a piece, I'd imagine that it would be done successfully at least once.

My favorite definition of a non-science fiction robot is a type of automated machine that can execute specific tasks with little or no human intervention and with speed and precision, and as a TAS is essentially a coded run in which every frame is pre-determined which is then set to run (fun fact, the creator of this TAS actually made an anecdote about one of his TAS’s after being set to run while he wasn’t looking I guess had accidentally activated the Crystal Guardian fight and… died because it wasn’t coded to do that fight lol) it exactly fits that definition.

I think of all forms of speedrunning as a type of art. Typical speedrunning is primarily a performance art, especially with the ubiquity of streaming, as people gather to watch skilled performers demonstrate their skill while simultaneously entertaining the audience with the resulting performance and, often, accompanying commentary. TASing, then, is akin to highly produced studio output, using powerful tools to achieve results that live human performers could never do. Modern produced music is comprised of dozens of carefully arranged and manipulated layers of sound, often with multiple recordings of the same voices and instruments, with carefully 'comped' vocal parts to create the illusion of an almost perfect performance. If typical TASes are pop productions, then, I like to think of ridiculous things like this as akin to hyperpop, taking the extreme perfection and dialing it up to absurd levels, such that any illusion of it being a human performance is utterly shattered. I have watched dozens of TASes on as many games, and I find the most entertaining bursts of gameplay come from TASers that are willing to screw around during segments when they're forced to wait for even a few frames. Like a really zealous drum solo, or a fun flourishing yoyo trick. It didn't need to happen, and might be inefficient, but it makes for extremely entertaining viewing. And consider the extra shilling effective. There's a dearth of TASes of these short bursts of showing off, most everything is full runs of a category, which depending on the game strip it down so far it stops being interesting to watch because of how much it abuses glitches to the demerit of the viewer. Things like end credit warp in Super Mario World or ACE in OoT. Those are fine to think about and marvel at how contorted the witchcraft is behind them, but they are very poor pieces of entertainment in the moment. And I disagree about the stripping of the illusion of a human hand, there's an underlying perfectionistic insanity inherent to this that an AI would never try for if told to learn a game and perfect it. That special spark of human insanity that says "Because it's there."

I had the same thought at that moment, imagine if an actual person manages to use gathering swarm during a geo-less run as tech.
