Very interesting. I'm new to this technology. I just bought the AC 200 Max and one extra battery. It's just for a small apartment so I don't need a big huge solar panel arrangement. I'm a prepper so it's just for emergencies in case things go wrong. 45 minutes after I ordered it we had one of the worst thunderstorms in history, a tornado and a power failure. We've been having lots of fires here in Canada lately. So I wanted to be prepared in case.

I'm of two minds. The visuals of the cables do turn me off. But more over, I have pets and clumsy little relatives. I know my cat will chew on any cable, not to mention a nephew thinking "Oh, this will be fun to pull". But like you, I see the potential in the cables. If they could be a bit longer, you could stack 6 expandables in 3 stacks of two batteries. And if one stack gets run down, it's simply a matter of disconnecting cables instead of unlatching, lifting, lining up, and relatching like the titan

Just a note what you stated about the wires and the high stack and the weight and the potential for accidents is all valid. but you can also spread the weight out if you had a weight sensitive area that you were keeping this system. you could spread the batteries out from the generator and that could be a big advantage for some application say in RVs. That's probably a very limited use for that though.

Will. Your power station reviews are outstanding and unbiased. I wonder if you would consider doing a video comparing customer service quality between the major power station companies after purchase. Customer service responsiveness is a major factor in deciding which unit to purchase. Specifically: Which companies stand by their product when something goes wrong? How long does it take to get a response when a problem arises? Who has the best warranties? Is there phone support or just email support? How are the reseller and BBB ratings for the various companies, etc. Thanks for your consideration.

I suggested to their rep a while back that they use right angle adapters for those heavy expansion cables for space saving and less chance of them getting snagged and toppled over. We can only make suggestions. I know a few people have had screen response issues(200p) and restarting the unit resolved them. It reminds me of the Microsoft Blue Screen of Death. Reboot and carry on lol. One drawback to more complex software.

Nice review. I like how honest your reviews are. Other reviews may or may not test as rigorously as you do and they may or may not disclose weaknesses of the reviewed products. They do store energy and supply it in a usable form.

Great Video. I've narrowed down my search to this model or the eco flow. The problem I have with bluetti is customer service is limited to electronic correspondence only. No contact phone where Eco Flow has phone contact and immediately your speaking to a rep. That to me is vital and peace of mind when investing this much money. I'm sure getting repair work done on either make can have it's issues but again talking to a person on the phone wins hands down in my book. Here it is July 25/2022 and the deals are on so I'm hoping bluetti has corrected the issues mention in this video. I ask them about the updated firmware on the previous 200p and they informed there were none and the unit is still the same as when first produced. That doesn't say much for them not to correct issues and just make another model instead. Thanks for this great review video.

It was originally going to be used for emergencies, but why waste free power. So we have it setup to provide power to parts of our home.

I just got my Bluetti AC200P on Aug. 31st. It is not reading wattage correctly amoung other things. Max Oak has just been giving me the run around. They keep having me make videos of the issues. Sometimes it will not show that there is any wattage being dispersed and when it does show wattage when I use more wattage it says that I am using less. I was very excited about getting one of these and when I seen that it was messed up I just thought " no big deal, they will just have to replace it." WRONG!!! They are not being cool about this at all.

@winstonsmiths2449

Bluetti's EB series of solar generators had a serious flaw that few reviewers caught. If a shadow passed in front of the panels and caused the voltage to drop, the bluetti's would not recover to the higher input. So if you had 300w coming in, shadow passed causing the voltage to drop to 200w. Shadow removed, voltage remained at 200w. You had to unplug the power input cable, plug it back in and the input would return to 300w. I would hope these units do not have that flaw. Bluetti told me 3 different times and with three different batteries that this problem was solved. It was never solved. I return all three units, one just prior to warranty running out and got a full refund $1,700+! Besides, they take too long to recharge using solar. Would take 2 full days to charge and could not be used when recharging. You have to draw less power than what your panels provide or you would eventually run out of power. And at less than 300w input,not much you can run. Would keep your fridge going forever. They were good for those who would be charging them primarily from the wall. Solar would be a secondary input source. I will not buy one of these. I no longer trust their QC or their word. I was going to buy from Big Battery, same issue. I am going the DIY route. Thanks Will.

Thanks, Will! This might be a perfect solution for an off-grid RV. My AC unit pushes 1500 BTU so the battery would be drained quickly, but with the proper solar array and occasional shore power for recharge, this is a sweet solution for the technically impaired person.

Firstly, Thank you Will for taking your time to teach. On to my question ( followed by my reason for said question). In a nutshell. I would like to run a refrigerator and charge a laptop/phone. What system would be best for my needs? Reason I ask is.... some of this is information overload.
@davidadams421
@davidadams421 3 жыл бұрын
There are many aspects of system design that need to be considered in order to provide even a simple response, I'm afraid - I would recommend watching a few of Will's earlier videos, particularly on energy audits and system design. Put simply, however, and with the assumption that you want to run this fridge continuously, energy out over any 24 hour period needs to equal energy in, then add-in the battery capacity for 'rainy days'. For example, it's best to measure actual fridge energy use but you'll need an energy meter for that but let's say it draws 100W on and off equally all day, that's 50W on average over 24 hours = 1,200Wh. So you need to generate 1,200Wh of solar power every 24 hours, else your battery will just continue to discharge over time until dead. In ideal Summer conditions you'd need at least 200W of PV to generate that, Winter more like 1,200W. The base product is rated for 2048Wh, which means that it would supply the fridge used in this example for 1.7 'rainy days' (2048Wh / 1,200Wh per day = 1.7 days). If the fridge is a compressor type (as opposed to absorption) then you also need to consider the initial power surge typical for inductive loads. My rule of thumb is 5 x steady power so if 100W, then 500W surge. This device is capable of supplying 4,800W surge so you should be OK. The phone charge energy requirements would be inconsequential when considered alongside the fridge. To summarise to a quick answer: this device or similar will probably work for you, you'd need around 200W of PV (in Summer, much more in Winter) and you'd have a day or so 'rainy day' cover. Will discusses all these considerations and much more in his earlier videos. Highly recommended.

He didn’t say you couldn’t automatically charge expansion packs!!!!! If he had, there wouldn’t been rioting in the streets by Bluetti supporters. What he said is, if you run the batteries down to 0 and the expansion packs shutoff, applying a charge to the AC200Max will not wake up the expansion packs. Under that very extreme condition you must manually restart the expansion batteries. It seems a small deal to me. Except for the initial discharge/recharge to calibrate the charge meter, I’ve never discharged my AC200P below 10% in last two months of usage. Most owners will never see this situation with expansion batteries. It’s certainly not a bug as it was designed this way… maybe the automatic wake up of expansion batteries will be added as a feature sometime in the future. 😁

What I wonder most with this system (or any other more DIY off grid system) is how you implement it to replace/complement current/legacy electric installations in houses and apartments so that plugs and appliances all draw autonomously from the off grid system first and then to traditional grid if off grid fails/depletes.

The screen locking up sounds like to me a hardware fault! From a pc side of view, normally when a hardware fault happens a reconnection of said hardware tends to fix the problem, but you can't unplug that monitor & replug it back in(or without taking the whole thing nearly apart that is) so yes, a software update to reconnect anything that isn't responding is a likely thing that may need to be added(or just set a reconnect flag whenever the screen is needed to come on)

I'm sure the 'not switching on the expansion packs on charge available' issue was a face palm moment for the product designers! Looks like a good unit, looks nice too. I may have missed it, did you run a capacity test? I assume it delivers its rated energy capacity. I actually don't mind the expansion cables, allows for user choice as to how they store them i.e. stacked, side-by-side etc. Also, could potentially allow for connection to existing LFP packs.

@WillProwse
@WillProwse 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidadams421 yes true, but then I have to take it apart down to the pack level. I usually test units like this at ac output because that's what actually matters. It's better to compare it to others that way. If the battery passes a capacity test, but inverter efficiency is horrible, then it isn't worth anyone's time. If the capacity at the output is higher than other units at the same price, that's more conclusive. I would also argue that more expensive models pull their actual capacity. It's only the piece of junk grade b packs that don't. I love testing them, but I expect them to fail usually. Not a large system designed by a big company. If I did get bad output figures, I would tear it apart and see what cells they have. If there is false advertising and I can prove it, they lose millions. So lately, it hasn't happened much.

I'm very sensitive to fan noise, so this is a little disappointing. I don't know how loud other brands are, but I really like silent or near silent cooling fans. PC computer power supplies, and video cards for that matter, used to be terrible when it comes to noise, but now make it a selling point to be very quiet. Wish Bluetti was better in the regard.

I am quite interested in the AC300, due to be pre-ordered 9/15/2021, but am concerned about Bluetti's business model. It seems to me that they develop a product, take orders for a batch, and then move on to the next idea. Since you can't actually buy the products, but can only place orders for them to be delivered in a few months, it would appear that you had better buy any expansion packs or model-specific accessories at the moment you place your initial order, as they may never be available again. I'd much prefer that they develop a system and then continually produce it; and support it with inventory and fixes. I don't want to spend $9000 on a system and then have to hold my breath. I agree that they should have a plan for securing these units. They may want to remember the 17 million Ikea chests of drawers recalled for tip-over hazard and deaths of 8 toddlers; so it is a real thing.
