What Blxckie ddnt mention is that Coloured is a culture here and not just mixed..Trevor and Tyla are two different type of Coloureds. While Trevor has a black mother and a white swiss father he is not culturally coloured. As you know Coloured is a mixture of races, they include Bantu, Khoi, White, indian, Asian.etc... so there is a variety of coloured of some who look black.. some look super Indian while some tilt towards whiteness but they are all Coloured and there are divisions of what kind of a Coloured you are.

@@kenemesayTrevor is of mixed heritage/race and can pass for coloured but he is not. He is not from that culture. “Reducing Coloured identity simply to being ‘mixed’ represents not only an erasure of many people’s histories and experiences, but also a failure to recognise the violence of the classification and the work that followed. Colouredness was created by communities forced together to make their lives work, which has had consequences for self-perception, world views and opportunities. Coloured identity is more than hair and complexion. It is more than an accident of biology. Colouredness is a culture. This cannot be overstated.” - extract from Coloured: How Classification Became Culture by Tessa Dooms and Lynsey Ebony Chutel.

In South Africa … There’s *1st generation mixed* and there’s also those of *descent* meaning they have *mixed forefathers* but as the generations narrowed with time … every member of the family is basically deprived from mixed ancestors making the *colored* race an actual ethnicity on its own … *THOUGH* we’re all humans … we shouldn’t let color define us … like Blxckie said .. South Africa is a rainbow nation… we’re all Proud South Africans

Is it me as a Coloured from the Apartheid Era that's not understanding this or is that our younger generation is not been taught the history of this country in this day and age. Although we into over 30 years of political freedom in South Africa, our racial classification has not changed from what it was in the Apartheid Era and that is BLACK, WHITE, INDIAN and COLOURED. And again why should Tyla waste her breath about explaining her race classification in foreign environments that are not familiar with history of it and show no interest in trying to understand it when she did previously try to explain it. In the U.S. for instance she was blasted on social media for calling herself Coloured because the word is derogatory there and elsewhere but the context here at home is totally different and the masses refused to understand that context. So why blame her for not wanting to engage it

Those "foreign environments" support and buy her art, her career wouldn't be where it's at without "foregin environment support" she owes them thay courtesy, It only take 10 seconds to explain and erase ignorance. AKA and Trevor Noah did i without making it into a huge deal. Let's stop pretending she doesn't need the American audience.

No one is treated differently in South Africa. They just did not remove the colored term. Even White people are not treated differently. Moreover people who were previously marginalized have more previledges. If you can afford you stay where you want. But Black include African, colored and Asian.

absolutly she can because for tylor coloured means who she is not just her skin colour which is what ppl in the US are missing...its a whole culture and her born identity....she is not a chameleon who changes in different space, this is her identity,her culture her heritage etc i dont know why this is difficult to understand....words may be the same but mean different things to different ppl.

I disagree coloured is mixed race and is an actual culture in South Africa and the majority speak Afrikaans so by Trevor Noah or Tyla going to America doesn't change their race or culture I mean bear in mind that these people are South African not American and if some mixed race being from America would move or visit South Africa it's unfair for us to disagree the fact that he or she is mixed race and not coloured because we have to have an understanding that we are from different places and cultures

She gotta know that in the US you got to be clear about your stance, you can say youre of mixed race and people wouldve understood. Yet it was almost like youre not representing black people and we didnt respect that, your answr shouldnt be from your PR team.
@vaughan137927 күн бұрын
She could’ve to avoid the noise but she grew up as a coloured, that’s the first thing that comes to mind when someone asks her that question, being as coloured and part of the coloured culture, it’s not her fault don’t blame her blame those who don’t educate themselves before judging her, they should know what coloured is in South Africa by now, Apartheid is a big part of history that they like to talk about but still it seems they’re still uneducated about it.

@vaughan1379 I'm black from the Caribbean, been living in the USA for the majority of my life and if I'm traveling to another land I'll learn about the history and customs of the people obviously so that certain things I'm aware of. Can't be oblivious to certain things, she's a woman and can answer for herself, too many excuses for her. I loved her music yet this was a hit to her career. There's nothing wrong with being mixes race, she could've clearly said so and make it clear. Hope she learns and grows from this otherwise fans will stop supporting her.
